patch applied (cabal-install): Refactor installLocalPackage and installRepoPackages
by Duncan Coutts 08 May '08

08 May '08

Wed May 7 11:01:08 PDT 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Refactor installLocalPackage and installRepoPackages They share most code so pull the first and last bits out into the top level install function. They now need 2 and 3 fewer params respectively, which is a good sign. Rename them because they're generating plans now rather than doing the installation directly. cabal-install now very picky about install planning
by Duncan Coutts 07 May '08

07 May '08

Hi all, If you're following the progress of cabal-install this is a heads up. I've switched it over to using this new InstallPlan stuff. So the dependency resolver is now expected to produce a valid install plan. The conditions for validity are quite strict and the current weedy dependency resolver is often not able to make a valid install plan. It is particularly bad with dependencies on inconsistent versions of packages, especially if the already installed packages have such inconsistencies. So watch out for these and report the most common ones and we can think about how to improve the resolver. It does produce fairly detailed error messages describing the problems with the install plan. There's a bit more work to do to make the dep resolver pluggable. I suspect it's not working with hugs at the moment again (producing valid install plans when you've no idea what's installed is more than a little difficult). Duncan

patch applied (cabal-install): Hide broken installed packages when resolving dependencies
by Duncan Coutts 07 May '08

Tue May 6 17:21:03 PDT 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Hide broken installed packages when resolving dependencies Stops us from choosing them which would always end up with an invalid installation plan. patch applied (cabal-install): Reimplement InstallPlan.failed as it was completely wrong
by Duncan Coutts 07 May '08

07 May '08

Tue May 6 17:13:02 PDT 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Reimplement InstallPlan.failed as it was completely wrong It was finding all the dependencies of the failed package and marking them as failed. But of course what we have to do is find all the packages that depend on the failed package (the reverse dependencies) and mark them as failed. We use the reverse dependency Graph that we saved in the InstallPlan. Tue May 6 17:06:26 PDT 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Add a dependency graph to the InstallPlan Uses Data.Graph and annoyingly we also need to keep functions around for mapping between Graph.Vertex <-> PackageIdentifier M ./Hackage/InstallPlan.hs -4 +24 View patch online: http://darcs.haskell.org/cabal-install/_darcs/patches/20080507000626-adfee-…

patch applied (cabal-install): Check that InstallPlan dependencies respect a state relation
by Duncan Coutts 07 May '08
