patch applied (cabal-install): Record and report the exceptions that cause build failure
by Duncan Coutts 19 Mar '08

19 Mar '08

Wed Mar 19 10:07:53 PDT 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Record and report the exceptions that cause build failure When installing a bunch of package we have to catch exceptions since we carry on building other packages that did not depend on the failing package. We were recording what phase the failure was in but not the actual exception. We now record that too and print it along with the more general explanation of what package failed and in which phase. It's not perfect, eg when a package fails to compile we end up printing that the exception was "ExitFailure 1" which is not very useful. hackage google etc
by Marc Weber 19 Mar '08

19 Mar '08

Hi, when looking for packages (eg syb withclass) You get 0.3 first (instead of 0.4) Don't know wether there is an easy way to tell google about ordering ? Doesn't has to be fixed but if it happens that somebody knows an easy solution we can improve? Maybe adding _LATEST_ link package name (version 0.3) _LATEST_ ... Other versions : 0.2 0.4 is easiest to spot ? Marc Weber

[Hackage] #202: add a flag/config to make cabal use sudo/su/.. when installing with --global
by Hackage 19 Mar '08

#202: add a flag/config to make cabal use sudo/su/.. when installing with --global ---------------------------------+------------------------------------------ Reporter: guest | Owner: Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Component: cabal-install tool | Version: HEAD Severity: normal | Keywords: global install sudo Difficulty: normal | Ghcversion: 6.8.2 Platform: Linux | ---------------------------------+------------------------------------------ cabal install --global usually fails because of missing privileges. sudo cabal install --global is quite messy since every intermediate file is then owned by root, so other tasks that wouldn't need privileges at all, now requires them to handle those files. I propose to add the possibility to configure a command to use when running the equivalent of "runhaskell Setup install" on the package. So that the user can set it in ~/.cabal/config and it will always be used when install --global is run. -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/202> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

[Hackage] #257: sdist doesn't include all files when using conditional and "buildable: False"

#146: cabal should support CPP and haskell string gaps in the same file ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Reporter: guest | Owner: Type: defect | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Component: Cabal library | Version: 1.1.6 Severity: normal | Resolution: Keywords: | Difficulty: easy (<4 hours) Ghcversion: 6.6 | Platform: Linux ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Changes (by duncan): * difficulty: normal => easy (<4 hours) Comment: The only solution I can see would be to always prefer cpphs over cpp for preprocessing Haskell code. That change is easy to make if people think it's the right thing to do in general. It previously used to work that way, but it was switched to use cpp by default because few people had cpphs installed and some things would break just for those users which was hard to track down. cpphs may have improved since then and may be more widely deployed so it might be ok to switch again. -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/146#comment:1> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

patch applied (cabal-install): Simplify the tar code a bit more

patch applied (cabal-install): Use relative paths when makeing tar.gz rather than changing current dir
by Duncan Coutts 19 Mar '08

Tue Mar 18 18:39:36 PDT 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Use relative paths when makeing tar.gz rather than changing current dir The current directory is a global variable, we should not mutate it. So instead, pass a base and relative path when generating tar entries. Also change sanitizePath to be pure and use FilePath.Poisx. patch applied (cabal-install): Minor changes to the tar packing code
by Duncan Coutts 19 Mar '08

19 Mar '08

Tue Mar 18 17:09:19 PDT 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Minor changes to the tar packing code Use lazy bytestring when packing tar entry headers rather than strict and then making a single chunk lazy bytestring later. The lazy bytestring pack will only generate a single chunk for a String that short (<4k). Use openBinaryFile rather than openFile + hSetBinaryMode. Add a haddock module header with copyright note.
