[Hackage] #228: Cryptic error when a package does not exist

#228: Cryptic error when a package does not exist ---------------------------------+------------------------------------------ Reporter: guest | Owner: Type: defect | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Component: cabal-install tool | Version: 1.2.3.0 Severity: normal | Keywords: Difficulty: easy (<4 hours) | Ghcversion: 6.8.2 Platform: Linux | ---------------------------------+------------------------------------------ {{{ $ cabal install foo cabal: user error (Unresolved dependencies: foo -any) }}} I expect a clearer error message here. Not sure about the exact wording, maybe »No such package available: foo« or »No such package to fetch: foo«. -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/228> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

Re: [Hackage] #217: Main modules in .hsc files are not included in sdist

#217: Main modules in .hsc files are not included in sdist ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Reporter: gwern | Owner: Type: defect | Status: reopened Priority: normal | Milestone: Cabal-1.4 Component: Cabal library | Version: 1.2.3.0 Severity: normal | Resolution: Keywords: | Difficulty: normal Ghcversion: 6.8.2 | Platform: ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Comment (by duncan): Fixed but not yet documented. {{{ Thu Jan 31 11:49:09 GMT 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Find original sources for main-is when creating sdist Also add a package sanity check that main-is must specify a .hs or .lhs file. So the bahaviour is now that main-is specifies the main source file, even if that is generated by a pre-processor. This isn't really a change in behaviour since previously if you specified main-is: main.hsc then it would try to pass the .hsc file to ghc dirctly which would not work. For ticket #14 things were fixed to that it would look for main.hsc if you used main-is: main.hs an that file did not exist directy. This completes the other half, of actually being able to make a src distribution. So this should fix bug #217. Note that this still needs some work, we do not run platform-independent preprocessors and put the result into the tarball for main-is files. Generally, main-is has been the second class citizen compared to normal modules. We should try and refactor so both use the same code paths. }}} -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/217#comment:11> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

patch applied (cabal): Adjust unlit's behaviour on continuing comments
by Duncan Coutts 31 Jan '08

31 Jan '08

Thu Jan 31 06:29:01 PST 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Adjust unlit's behaviour on continuing comments This behaviour is not set in stone, there is not full agreement yet. The previous code was deciding wether to continue a comment based on wether the intervenienting lines were completely blank or had at least one space in. The other suggestion was to use a '.' to continue a comment line. Instead, this change uses a single blank line between comments to continue a comment and anything else terminates it with a blank line. M ./Distribution/Simple/PreProcess/Unlit.hs -8 +6 M ./tests/UnlitTest.hs -2 +2

Cabal QA message typo
by Johan Tibell 31 Jan '08

31 Jan '08

I can't easily send patches from work so I'll report this bug before I forget about it. There's a typo in Distribution/PackageDescription/QA.hs ghcWarn "-O2" $ "-O2 is rarely needed as it often prolong the compile time " ++ "with usually with little benefit." Notice the extra "with." -- Johan
