#47: implement ./setup bdist ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Reporter: ijones | Owner: ijones Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Cabal-1.4 Component: cabal-install | Version: Severity: normal | Resolution: Keywords: | Difficulty: hard Ghcversion: 6.2.1 | Platform: Linux ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Changes (by duncan): * priority: high => normal * component: Cabal => cabal-install Comment: If we do this we should do this in cabal-install. We also need to specify exactly what we mean and want by a binary distribution. Would it be relocatable for example? What would the resulting tarball look like? What would be the procedure to install such a package. Is there really a great need for this in the light of tools that can generate distro packages like rpm, deb, ebuild etc. Needs more design discussion and someone to implement it. -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/47#comment:3> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

There is already a list command for cabal-install but it lists uninstalled packages. Probably it should list all packages, installed and otherwise with an indication of whether they are installed or not. There should perhaps also be a flag to ask to list just installed. -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/106#comment:3> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

[See attached message for full report. Short version: Cabal error message on win32: "Setup: ld is required but it could not be found." Solution: add $ghc_path/gcc-lib to searched paths for ld and co. -or-: advise people to add it to their PATH var. ] I have no Windows system, but would is this worth a bug-fix for Cabal? Or has it already been fixed? / Thomas
