Fri Aug 31 06:50:42 PDT 2007 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Refactor the internal handling of the "--user" flag into a PackageDB type PackageDB can be user/global or a specific package db. The latter option is not exposed in the user interface anywhere. Also move the getInstalledPackages into the per-compiler modules with a non-compiler-specific wrapper left in Distribution.Simple.Configure M ./Distribution/Simple.hs -1 +1 M ./Distribution/Simple/Compiler.hs +18 M ./Distribution/Simple/Configure.hs -40 +19 M ./Distribution/Simple/GHC.hs -4 +29 M ./Distribution/Simple/JHC.hs -7 +23 M ./Distribution/Simple/LocalBuildInfo.hs -2 +2 M ./Distribution/Simple/Register.hs -28 +35 M ./Distribution/Simple/Setup.hs -27 +15 M ./Distribution/Simple/SetupWrapper.hs -19 +20

patch applied (cabal): for c2hs, look for .chi files in dist/build rather than hs-src-dirs
by Duncan Coutts 31 Aug '07

Thu Aug 30 16:37:15 PDT 2007 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * for c2hs, look for .chi files in dist/build rather than hs-src-dirs Since when we run c2hs we put .chi files into dist/build so that's also where we should be looking for them. M ./Distribution/Simple/PreProcess.hs -1 +1

cabal output

When I run setup configure on my machine I get: Configuring Cabal-1.1.7... unrecognized option `--numeric-version' Try the option `--help' on its own for more information. setup: executing external program failed (exit 1) : /usr/bin/c2hs --numeric-version This is a bit confusing, because at first glance it looks like setup failed. I find this slightly annoying. Could we have it print "setup was successful" or something similar, just so we know for sure? I mean, we're already printing out the "Configuring Cabal..." message, so I don't think one more line is too wordy :) Pete

patch applied (cabal): Make checking program versions not produce error spew
by Duncan Coutts 30 Aug '07

30 Aug '07

Thu Aug 30 07:43:12 PDT 2007 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Make checking program versions not produce error spew Redirect stderr to /dev/null (or NUL on windows) and throw an exception like rawSystemExit does rather than calling die which prints an unhelpful message before throwing an exception. It's not an overall failure to not be able to establish the version of a program, since we check later if we actually have any requirement for any particular version anyway. So for example this makes running configure with an old version of c2hs that doesn't grok --numeric-version not produce unhelpful output that make people think that configure failed.
