I decided to contact you on a mutual business relationship. My name is Miss fatimat konan Bedie the daugther of former president Henri Konan Bedie of cote dIvoire, who was unfortunately toppled in a military coup in Dec. 1999 by General Robert Guei.As at when the military junta struck, and overthrew the elected government of my father, he was forced to go into exile in France while some of his ministers and close aids ran to other countries. When my father was in power, I was co-ordinating his special businesses, and was also in charge of all his deposit account with different financial instituions in Europe. To this Switzerland and Luxembourg Government have already responded by exposing many of my familys bank account in their country. It is based on this development that i have the mandate of my father to contact you and request you specifically to assist my family, by helping us to secure this deposit we have with a financial institution in Europe, which amounts to( US$35M),Thirty Five million US dollars. This will make it impossible for the new Government in power in my country, to have access to this fund. It is base on the fact that I am requesting you to assist us in putting this sum of money in safe keeping by accepting to receive it from the financial institution on our behalf by changing the name and signatory of the account into yours so that it will not have any link to my family and for that reason, my country will not find it. I will furnish you the details of this transaction if you accept to assist. For your efforts we will discuss what remuneration i will give you when you reply. Because of the urgency this issue requires. you should reach me on the above e-mail addresses. Do not forget to include your telephone and fax numbers while replying to this message. I wait for your quick response. Best regards. fatimat Konan Bedie.

Text.PrettyPrint.HughesPJ bug (return of the dead?)
by Johannes Waldmann 21 Jul '03

21 Jul '03

There once was a bug in Text.PrettyPrint.HughesPJ causing it to print infinitely many spaces. http://haskell.org/pipermail/glasgow-haskell-users/2001-November/002584.html It seems this code has re-appeared in the ghc-6.0 libraries: > spaces 0 = "" > spaces n = ' ' : spaces (n - 1) this should be replicate n ' ' or something that behaves nicely for negative arguments. (that shouldn't of course be there in the first place but this seems harder to fix. somehow related to nesting, etc.) Best regards, -- -- Johannes Waldmann ---- http://www.informatik.uni-leipzig.de/~joe/ -- -- joe(a)informatik.uni-leipzig.de -- phone/fax (+49) 341 9732 204/209 --

URGENT: INFORMATION ABOUT WASH, GHC, CGI AND HSP
by Gerardo Valeri 20 Jul '03

20 Jul '03

HI! WE ARE A GROUP OF STUDENTS TRYING TO MAKE A WEB APPLICATTION USING HSP, CGI AND WASH (WEB AUTHORING SYSTEM HASKELL). WE DOWNLOADED WASH, AND GHC COMPILER. WE COMPILED THE WHOLE APPLICATION WITH GHC BUT WE NEED TO GENERATE A .EXE FROM WASH AND WE HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. WE ARE WORKING ON A WINDOWS PLATFORM. WE COMPILED THE FOUR MODULES FROM WASH: UTILITY, WASHHTML, WASHCGI AND WASHMAIL, WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO CREATE A .EXE FROM THEM. WE REALLY APPRECIATE ANY SUGGESTION. THANK YOU GERARDO

How to modify GHC internals?
by Ali Anvari 19 Jul '03

19 Jul '03

Hi. <Question 1> How should I get started so I should accomplish the following? I would be most grateful for all help received. </Question 1> <Aim> To guarantee security of a Haskell program so it can be used as an applet. </Aim> <Method> Over-ride GHC's code generator to produce an assembly language that I specify. Also disable program access to system calls and foreign functions, except for a single trusted library that I specify. </Method> <Question 2> If I should not ask on this list I would appreciate a pointer to the right list. </Question 2> Many Thanks, Ali Anvari __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? GHC 6 for Mac OS X: fix for package util/readline
by Arthur Baars 18 Jul '03

18 Jul '03

On Mac OS X GHCi 6.0 complains about a missing symbol when trying to load package "util". Wolgang Thaller told me the cause of this bug: The problem was that there was a file called HsReadline.c. The corresponding object file, HsReadline.o, replaced HSreadline.o on the Mac's case-insensitive file system. So the actual problem is a broken readline package, which is used by util. The bug is fixed in the next release (6.0.1) and in CVS. For those who don't feel like compiling CVS-sources, or waiting for the next release; below is a quick fix. A working HSreadline.o is created from the libHSreadline.a file using the -g option of ghc-pkg. 1) set environment variable "libdir" to ghc-6's directory: setenv libdir /usr/local/lib/ghc-6.0/ 2) cp $libdir/libHSreadline.a $libdir/libHSreadline_p.a /tmp/ 3) create a config file for package readline: ghc-pkg -s readline > /tmp/readline.conf 4) cd /tmp 5) remove the package readline from ghc: ghc-pkg -r readline 6) add package again and let ghc-pkg create the ghci library: ghc-pkg -g -a -i /tmp/readline.conf For step 5/6 you may need root-access, use "su" or "sudo" Arthur

case-eta-expansion
by David Sabel 18 Jul '03

18 Jul '03

Hi, Can someone tell me, where exactly (in the code of ghc5.04.3) the case-eta-expansion is performed, I searched the modules of the simplifier, but didn't find this transformation. Or is it no longer performed in ghc5.04.3? Thanks, David
