I submitted improved versions for some of the benchmarks. My feeling is that the #1 reason for ghc being slower is usually Strings. To really do better we need a good PackedString library combined with PackedString I/O. I believe the current PackedString library is underperforming quite a bit - it's on my queue of things to look into. Cheers, Simon
