Problem building hat

Hi there, I am trying to build hat using ghc6.4.1 with windows/cygwin. I also tried nhc, but with the same error. ./configure works fine, but "make" exits with the following error: Warning: package(s) base not available (according to ghc-pkg) Can't find module lang in user directories . . ../compiler98 Or in installed libraries/packages at Asked for by: commandline Fix using the -I, -P, or -package flags. Stop - hmake dependency error. make[1]: *** [c:/dev/hat-2.04/lib/ix86-CYGWIN_NT-5.1/hat-trans.exe] Error 255 make[1]: Leaving directory `/cygdrive/c/dev/hat-2.04/src/hattrans' make: *** [targets/ix86-CYGWIN_NT-5.1/hat-trans-ghc] Error 2 Any ideas? Tracing a program that uses Control.Monad.ST

Hi all, I am attempting to trace a program (Djinn) that uses library modules that are not supported by Hat, such as Control.Monad.ST . I was planning to add them to either add them to Hat before building or directly to the program itself. However, I fear that this and other modules were left out because there was some fundamental limitation of Hat when dealing with these. I've been getting "could not contact haskell.galois.com" errors when trying to do a cvs update... Is this a my connection issue, or a their connection issue? Bob

Hat-trans or hat-lib bug

Odd bug here... hat: missing separator in generated config.

I don't think this is a problem with hat (since the same thing happened when I built hmake), but since it breaks the hat build (at least on my machine), I thought I should report it. My generated config file (lib/powerpc-Darwin8/config) contains the three lines (9 through 11): GHCSYM= 604 and so when running "make", I get the error: /Users/dmellis/Desktop/hat-2.04/lib/powerpc-Darwin8/config:11: *** missing separator. Stop. This is on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), with GNU Make 3.80. The file "targets/powerpc-Darwin8/ghcsym" has two blanks lines at the beginning, followed by a line with only "604" - perhaps this is the problem?

Building hat

Hi, I'm trying to update the Debian packaging of hat so that hat is functional in Debian again (the currently Debian package doesn't work with any Haskell implementation available in Debian). I've run into several bugs (?) that I was able to work around, but I've now hit one that has me stumped. The first problem that I had is that the script to detect the current ghc version is wrong. It searches for the regular expression "^[0-9]*". Problem is, the ghc invocation it uses generates the following file: ----- cut here ----- 604 ----- cut here ----- As a result, hat's idea of the ghc version is "\n\n604", which wreaks all kinds of havoc as I'm sure you can imagine. The solution is to use the regular expression "^[0-9]\+" or the equivalent form "^[0-9][0-9]*". Next, I ran into some files that are in a different directory from what the build scripts want and break the build as a consequence. For instance, make[2]: *** No rule to make target `Foreign/ForeignPtr.hs', needed by `/home/daniel/debian-pkgs/NMU/hat/hat-2.04/debian/build-tools/targets/ix86-Linux/obj/hatlib/ghc6/Hat/Foreign/ForeignPtr.o'. Stop. ForeignPtr is in Hat/Foreign/, not Foreign/. I dealt with this by copying the file into the correct directory, and I did the same with PreludeBasic.hx (which is in the root of the hatlib source directory but is expected to be in Hat/). However, I now get this error message: /home/daniel/debian-pkgs/NMU/hat/hat-2.04/debian/build-tools/script/hat-trans -P. -I. -trusted -prelude -D__GLASGOW_HASKELL__=604 Foreign/ForeignPtr.hs hat-trans: ./Hat/Hack.hx: openFile: does not exist (No such file or directory) Hack.hx exists nowhere in the source tree. I don't really know what a .hx file is, but they appear to be some sort of specially processed form of the .hs modules. It looks like you forgot to include some files in the source distribution; would it be possible for you to email them to me? Thanks, Daniel

PackedString missing

Malcolm, when you modified AuxTypes.hs you probably added a dependeny on PackedString. However, the directory compiler98 does not contain that file. You should probably add it. Hat installation problems

Hi all, I am having a problem in trying to install Hat 2.04 on my PC, I am installing Hat in a local directory so as configuration step I run ./configure --prefix=/mylocaldir/ it works fine, it finds both ghc and hmake then I run: make as first message I receive an error regarding the config file: hat-2.04/lib/ix86-Linux/config:11: *** missing separator. Stop. I edit the config file and it looks like this: GHCSYM= 604 line 11 is a space between "GHCSYM=" and "604" so I delete the separating line and modify the file as GHCSYM=604 after this the make command seems to proceed fine since at some point it stops stating: make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/rborgo/hat-2.04/src/hatlib' /usr/rborgo/hat-2.04/script/hat-trans -P. -I. -trusted -prelude -D__GLASGOW_HASKELL__= 604 PreludeBuiltin.hs Can't open 604 make[1]: *** [/usr/rborgo/hat-2.04/targets/ix86-Linux/obj/hatlib/ghc/Hat/PreludeBuiltin.o] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/rborgo/hat_no_patch/hat-2.04/src/hatlib'make: *** [targets/ix86-Linux/hat-lib-ghc] Error 2 I have succesfully installed hmake and I am running ghc 6.4, I am working under linux Fedora-RedHat, what am I missing? hat installation problem

Hi "hat guys", I have a problem: I try to get hat installed under Mac OS X and so I have it now under /opt/local/ with the help of Darwinport (a rpm file could be installed, or rather forced into this location using a rpm2cpio.sh script). I should say that I also have a ghc installation in fink /sw/bin/ghc (6.2), and *also* one under /opt/local/bin/ (6.4). I have set the GH library path and given the /opt/local precedence in the $PATH variable, so I really hope this is not the problem (well it works for usual Haskell files anyway). Despite this, I cannot get hat up and running. The problem is probably not hat, since the hat-trans compiler seems to work just fine. The problem is to use ghc on the result: $ ghc -v Hat/myresult.hs Using package config file: /opt/local/lib/ghc-6.4/package.conf ... Failed to load interface for `Hat.PreludeBasic': Could not find module `Hat.PreludeBasic': locations searched: Hat/PreludeBasic.hi Hat/PreludeBasic.hi-boot I guess my installation is somehow corrupt, but I wonder if I can manually add Hat to package.conf to avoid this problem. Note that hat resides in /opt/local/bin /opt/local/lib/hat /opt/local/include/hat hmake works fine without hat at the moment, but with the -hat argument I get similarly: $ hmake -hat myfile.hs ... ghc -c -package hat -o ... ghc-6.4: unknown package: hat Many thanks to some help to get 'hat' up and going! Adding modules to the hat libraries

I'm trying to get QuickCheck added to the available hat modules... So... I've added the source file at src/hatlibs/Test/QuickCheck.hs, I've modified src/hatlibs/Makefile to tell it to build the file, I've modified configure to make it install the .hx file... I've edited the src/hatlibs/hat.pkgconf and src/hatlibs/hat.cabal files to make ghc's package system make sense, I can't for the life of me figure out what to edit to tell it to install the .hi file! What do I need to do? Bob
