ANNOUNCE: GPipe-1.0.0: A functional graphics API for programmable GPUs

I'm proud to announce the first release of GPipe-1.0.0: A functional graphics API for programmable GPUs. GPipe models the entire graphics pipeline in a purely functional, immutable and typesafe way. It is built on top of the programmable pipeline (i.e. non-fixed function) of OpenGL 2.1 and uses features such as vertex buffer objects (VBO's), texture objects and GLSL shader code synthetisation to create fast graphics programs. Buffers, textures and shaders are cached internally to ensure fast framerate, and GPipe is also capable of managing multiple windows and contexts. By creating your own instances of GPipes classes, it's possible to use additional datatypes on the GPU. You'll need full OpenGL 2.1 support, including GLSL 1.20 to use GPipe. Thanks to OpenGLRaw, you may still build GPipe programs on machines lacking this support. A new version of the OpenGLRaw package has been uploaded to Hackage. * Use opaque newtypes for the basic OpenGL types, adding the common instances for them, too. Note that this might break programs which depend on the concrete representations. Use explicit conversions where necessary, making all assumptions explicit. * Fixed linking issues on Mac OS X, the package should work out of the box without any warnings or additional flags now. * Fall back to GetProcAddress on Windows when WGL doesn't find an API entry. This should fix problems using core functions with some driver/OS combinations. * Added support for OpenGL 3.2 and the latest NV extensions. * All extensions export all their functions/tokens/types, even if they are in the core. This will keep the extension module exports more stable. * Fixed the types of the glPixelMap functions, using GLsizei instead of GLint for the size, following the OpenGL specification. Cheers, S.

A new version of the GLURaw package has been uploaded to Hackage. * Fixed linking issues on Mac OS X, the package should work out of the box without any warnings or additional flags now. * Fixed the type of gluUnProject4, the near and far parameters are of type GLclampd, not GLdouble. A new version of the GLUT package has been uploaded to Hackage. * Fixed linking issues on Mac OS X, the package should work out of the box without any warnings or additional flags now. * Handle additional mouse buttons via 'AdditionalButton Int' in the MouseButton type. * Made a few minor typing adjustments, which don't really matter for the type synonyms used for the basic OpenGL types so far, but which do matter for the upcoming datatype renamings for them. * Aesthetic improvements in the brick shader example. Hi again, I've just solved my previous problem I had with the new HOpenGlRaw package. It seems that wglGetProcAddress wont retreieve pointers for core 1.1 functions (like glClearColor) and these must be retrieved with standard GetProcAddress calls instead (see http://www.opengl.org/discussion_boards/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=…) I made these changes to cbits/HsOpenGLRaw.hs [18-22]: void* hs_OpenGLRaw_getProcAddress(const char *name) { void* p = wglGetProcAddress((LPCSTR)name); if (p) return p; else return GetProcAddress(GetModuleHandle("opengl32"),(LPCSTR)name); } With those changes everything now works fine! I suggest you incorporate it into the next revision to make HOpenGLRaw work on windows for those of us that has opengl 3.1 hardware and drivers. Basic Lighting for CAD

Hi, I'm looking for a basic lighting configuration for a solid modeller I'm building. I don't need anything elaborate; I just want to set a color and get reasonable shading. I followed the guidelines from http://www.opengl.org/wiki/How_lighting_works, but my scenes are left only black and white (http://funhdl.org/ball.jpg) Are there any specifics to the Haskell API to properly configure lighting? Here are the lighting commands I call during program init: position (Light 0) $= Vertex4 1 1 0 1 ambient (Light 0) $= Color4 0 0 0 1 diffuse (Light 0) $= Color4 1 1 1 1 specular (Light 0) $= Color4 1 1 1 1 lightModelAmbient $= Color4 0.2 0.2 0.2 1 lighting $= Enabled light (Light 0) $= Enabled colorMaterial $= Enabled colorMaterial $= Just (FrontAndBack, AmbientAndDiffuse) materialSpecular FrontAndBack $= Color4 1 1 1 1 materialEmission FrontAndBack $= Color4 0 0 0 1 During a frame redraw, the only lighting functions called are disabling and enabling lighting to draw the coordinate system.
