Hi is it a biggie to put emacs style command line editing in Hugs ? I'm trying this on windows and frequently find myself doing ctrl-a, ctrl-e etc... Cheers Frank Dellaert

WinHugs Command Line Parsing

Hello --- This is to report a possible bug with WinHugs command line parsing. We have installed hugs and winhugs from hugs98-Feb2001.msi. We need to run hugs or winhugs with an option to set the editor, like this -E"I:\business\winedt32\winedt.exe -E=H:\WinEdt.INI [Open('%s");SelLine(%d,7)]" This tells Hugs to use the WinEdt editor which is given its -E option to set the place it looks for an initialization file (ie the users local file not the network copy) and to open the file %s at line %d with colour red (7). With hugs.exe in a DOS box this option works fine. However with WinHugs we get the error message ERROR [Open(%d),SelLine(%d,7)]" - Unable to open file "[Open(%d),SelLine(%d,7)]"" and the editor is set to ``=H:\WinEdt.INI'' It looks as if the command line parsing for WinHugs (but not Hugs) is taking the second ``-E'' as a Hugs option (not a WinEdt option). A workround is to set registry settings or set the environment variable HUGSFLAGS but command line options are safer since users may reset registry settings and affect the next user of the machine (we are running MS-NT with a Novell networks). Has anybody else come across this problem and are there ways of quoting things to get the command line to work for WinHugs? bug using records

The following piece of code is accepted by hugs data Record = MkRecord { field :: Int } v = MkRecord { field = 10 } but when i also include a class with the same name as the constructor class MkRecord a I get the following error: Dependency analysis ERROR "D:\test.hs":775 - Constructor "MkRecord" does not have selected fields in MkRecord{field = 10} If I try v = MkRecord 10 instead, I get an internal error: Type checking INTERNAL ERROR: typeAp1 (¯`·.¸¸.-> pepeg <-.¸¸.·´¯)

Hugs for Macintosh 2001/11/19

I made an update to the version that I and Pablo Azero used to develop; it is at http://www.matematik.su.se/~haberg/Computer/Hugs98Feb2001MacBin20011119.sit The sources I used to compile these, using Metrowerks CodeWarrior Pro 5 are at http://www.matematik.su.se/~haberg/Computer/Hugs98Feb2001MacSrc20011119.sit If somebody is willing to put this stuff up elsewhere, please let me know. It differs from the 2001/10/12 version in that the :e command now works as it used to do in the Mac versions building on the kernels before the hugs98-Feb2001 kernel. (I merely removed the extra quotes that this kernel inserts in machdep.c, startEdit(); see the Mac sources.) Hugs editing on Mac.

Dear colleagues, I'm planning to teach a course about Algorithms and Data Structures, by using Hugs. My students have MacIntosh computers (o.s. Mac OS E1-9.1). When I try to use the -E option (with :set or in the Preferences file), I obtain a nice little bomb (rather the equivalent to a bomb in this modern O.S.). What's the problem ? On the version that Pablo and I made http://www.matematik.su.se/~haberg/Computer/Hugs98Feb2001MacBin20011012.sit if the -E string is empty, it launches the file to the MacOS creator program of the file. (E.g., an BBEdit file will be launched to BBEdit, etc.) So normally, you should not change it. (I do not remember exactly what happens when you change it -- it probably tries to launch that name as well, but not the file to that program name.) Hans Aberg

Hi guys, hugs has recip (x:%y) = if x < 0 then (-y) :% (-x) else y :% x which is not correct when x == 0. Thanks Ian
