HsDNS provides an asynchronous DNS resolver on top of the GNU ADNS library. Not all options are supported, but A, MX, and PTR lookups work nicely. Courtesy of Lutz Donnerhacke , the new 1.1 release adds support for retrieving generic RR types, CNAMEs, and for NSEC zone walking.
