darcs patch: add modules to deal with Workspaces (select, etc) by n...
by David Roundy 19 Oct '07

19 Oct '07

Hi all, This patch allows ion3-style selection of workspace and creation of new named workspaces. Also allows you to do stuff like move a window to a named workspace, interactively selecting this workspace by name. David Tue Oct 16 18:33:47 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * add modules to deal with Workspaces (select, etc) by name using XPrompt.

darcs patch: XSelection.hs: simplify creation of window (and 2 more)
by gwern0＠gmail.com 19 Oct '07

19 Oct '07

Thu Oct 18 21:00:13 EDT 2007 gwern0(a)gmail.com * XSelection.hs: simplify creation of window While spelunking in the xclip source code, I noticed it had much the same call to createSimpleWindow but with a simpler geometry - just 1x1 pixels, not the odd 200x100 of the original code. It seems to work the same and looks better and less mysterious, so unless arossato had a specific reason for those particular two numbers... Thu Oct 18 21:00:34 EDT 2007 gwern0(a)gmail.com * XSelection.hs: +type signature for auxiliary function Thu Oct 18 21:00:57 EDT 2007 gwern0(a)gmail.com * XSelection.hs: documentation format changes.

darcs patch: Adjust EwmhDesktops to use the Hooks system (and 4 more)

It currently only supports changing the current desktop (which at least for me is the most important feature). Note that you need my patch against X11-extras that adds ClientMessage support. You also need my messageHook hack against darcs. I tried to implement this without changes to the core, but trying to do some hack based on LayoutModifieres weren’t very satisfying. The code is still there, just commented. I’d very much appreciate any comments on how this functionality can go in, after 0.4, I guess. darcs patch: Hooks module (and 7 more)
by mail＠joachim-breitner.de 19 Oct '07

19 Oct '07

Thu Oct 18 17:24:47 CEST 2007 mail(a)joachim-breitner.de * Hooks module This is the basic hooks module with all the magic, and should be put directly in xmonad/ if this proposal is ever agreed on. Thu Oct 18 17:25:47 CEST 2007 mail(a)joachim-breitner.de * HookProxy module This is only need while the Hooks system is not in the core. The names of the functions match those in the Config.hs that they shoud replace. Eventually, the core (i.e. Operations.hs) should call > runSomeHook (mconcat Config.xmonadExtensions) in the right spot itself. This is all required modification to the core! Thu Oct 18 17:27:27 CEST 2007 mail(a)joachim-breitner.de * Extensions to match windows on the name To not lose the functionality of the current manageHook, this extensions provides this. This also means that the lines that extract the window names etc. would not have to be in the core anymore. Thu Oct 18 17:28:49 CEST 2007 mail(a)joachim-breitner.de * ManageDocks migrated to Hook system Not much to do to migrate an existing module to the new hook system. Note that extendind the fields of an XMonadExtensions does not break this! darcs patch: sketch of config/main inversion. (and 1 more)
by David Roundy 19 Oct '07

19 Oct '07

Hi all, This is a working, testable version of xmonad with main defined in the config file (now called Main.hs, so that ghc will be happy with the recursive imports, that I haven't yet eliminated). A patch to update XMC will follow. David Thu Oct 18 09:42:30 PDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * sketch of config/main inversion. darcs patch: sketch of config/main inversion.
by David Roundy 19 Oct '07

19 Oct '07

Hi all, Here's a sketch of how I envision the inversion of main and config working. It's a crude sketch, and won't compile (although EventLoop will compile) because I haven't gotten rid of the recursive module imports. But that'll take some work, so I'd like to get an agreement on the principle before proceeding. Comments are most welcome. Note also that, this being a sketch, I didn't work hard to make it pretty. David Thu Oct 18 09:42:30 PDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * sketch of config/main inversion.
