The quickest move for debian, besides having the new ghc packages in place, would be a version of xmonad and X11 1.4 that compiles with the old Cabal version, but I’m not sure if such a hack is worth the effort. Is this related to documentation you read - that documentation could be indeed bugged? For xmobar, you can use the standard input reader: when xmonad quits xmobar is going to quit too. Have a look at XMonad.Config.Sjanssen (of the xmonad-contrib library) for a working example. I would suggest to mark this report as invalid. According to the status bar, in the focused workspace of the attached images, there is the Tall layout, and not the tabbed layout. "Closing one of the tab windows quits xmonad": what are the tab windows you are referring to? the decoration windows (the tabs) or the window the decoration is for? I don't see any decoration becoming managed in you screenshot. sorry if I'm asking this info: I'm supposed to be the maintainer of the tabbed layout, but I don't have multiple screens I can use to reproduce you problem, so I need more information... by the way, mod+q should issue this command: broadcastMessage ReleaseResources >> restart (Just "xmonad") True did you change it? specifically "broadcastMessage ReleaseResources" should destroy all decoration, so no decoration should be managed after a xmonad restart. Pidgin dzen app

I've started playing around with xmonad recently and really like it. I was sort of annoyed that I had to run a system tray program to see whether or not I have pending unread messages in Pidgin, so I tried to write a small program that I could use to pipe the number of unread messages to a dzen instance. I just hacked this up tonight using the Pidgin DBUS API. The logic isn't 100% correct (if you have a conversation window in the pidgin foreground but pidgin isn't an active window, it still thinks you've read the message), and I'm not a good enough C hacker to really be confident that I really understand how the Pidgin DBUS API works and if this is the correct way to figure out how many unread messages there are, but it might inspire someone smarter than myself to take a look and write something better ;-) For your enjoyment: http://static.eklitzke.org/pidgin-dzen.tar.gz P.S. Have a tabbed workspace visible on one screen of a multi-screen setup. 2. Focus a window in the other screen. 3. Restart xmonad (press Mod+Q). What is the expected output? What do you see instead? Nothing visible should change. Instead, the tabs become managed windows in the focused workspace (attachment 1). What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad 0.5 on Ubuntu Gutsy, GHC 6.6. Please provide any additional information below. Creating or destroying a window in the tabbed workspace fixes the problem, as does pressing Mod+Shift+Space. Closing one of the tab windows quits xmonad. Restarting xmonad with the focus in the non-tabbed workspace while the tab windows are managed makes for weirdness: the tabs appear in the correct place, but the spaces where the tabbed windows used to be are empty (attachment 2). After the focus changes, the tabs become managed windows like before. If this error is due to a module from XMonadContrib, please tag this issue with 'Component-Contrib' below.
