Ubuntu packages available

I created Ubuntu Gutsy packages from nomeata’s Debian packages, for both i386 and amd64. You can get them from nomeata’s site, http://people.debian.org/~nomeata/xmonad/gutsy/ . (Until the amd64 packages are there, you can download them at http://hethrael.com/xmonad/ .) I don’t know what will happen if you install them and have a self-compiled version installed too; I uninstalled X11, xmonad, and xmonad-contrib before installing them.

Setup.lhs: xmonad.cabal:25: 'Executable' stanza starting ...

Hi and Merry Christmas! I'm trying to get xmonad working on my Ubuntu Gusty install. I'm getting ideas from this link on how to install it (it's only for xmonad 0.4): http://erl.nfshost.com/wordpress/2007/11/02/installing-xmonad-on-ubuntu-gut… So for mtl-1.1.0 and X11-1.4.1 I do: sudo runhaskell Setup.* configure; runhaskell Setup.* build sudo runhaskell Setup.* install; For and xmonad-0.5 I do: pushd xmonad-0.5/; runhaskell Setup.* configure --prefix=$HOME --user; runhaskell Setup.* build runhaskell Setup.* install I get the following error for each of the "runhaskell" lines in the xmond-0.5 dir: Setup.lhs: xmonad.cabal:25: 'Executable' stanza starting with field 'flag small_base description' Here is the output of "ghc-pkg list" /usr/lib/ghc-6.6.1/package.conf: Cabal-1.1.6.2, X11-1.4.1, base-2.1.1, filepath-1.0, (ghc-6.6.1), haskell98-1.0, mtl-1.0.1, mtl-1.1.0.0, parsec-2.0, readline-1.0, regex-base-0.72, regex-compat-0.71, regex-posix-0.71, rts-1.0, stm-2.0, template-haskell-2.1, unix-2.1 Any ideas? gnome-panel not seen as dock?
by Jevin Maltais 02 Jan '08

Now we're closer: the config compiles and now we're in gnome with xmonad as the WM. I know this because I can roll the mouse over a window and it will receive the focus (not normal metacity behavior). Also, the windows have no titlebar. The issue is when I start say, firefox, it gets put in the top left corner _over top_ of the gnome-panel. Also, firefox didn't launch into fullscreen which is normal xmonad behavior if I run it alone. alt-j and alt-k don't work so it looks like I'm halfway there? I looked at the keyboard shortcuts in gnome and there doesn't seem to be conflicts. I'm debating throwing out gnome and just using dzen but I'd rather use gnome. Sorry about being a nag, Jevin On Dec 31, 2007 5:07 AM, Andrea Rossato <mailing_list(a)istitutocolli.org> wrote: > On Mon, Dec 31, 2007 at 11:04:33AM +0100, Andrea Rossato wrote: > > import XMonad > > import XMonad.Hooks.ManageDocks > > > > port XMonad.Hooks.ManageDocks > > > > main = xmonad $ defaultConfig > > { borderWidth = 3 > > , manageHook = manageDocks > > , layoutHook = avoidStruts (tall ||| Mirror tall) > > } > > where tall = Tall 1 (3/100) (1/2) > > > > hope this helps. > > > > sorry for my cut and paste... Issue 115 in xmonad: sjanssenPP unlike defaultPP gives parsing error in xmobar if titlebar contains "{" and "}" char

Issue 115: sjanssenPP unlike defaultPP gives parsing error in xmobar if titlebar contains "{" and "}" char http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=115 Comment #3 by iddo333: Oops, right, I didn't notice alignSep in .xmobarrc, I changed it now to something else, and everything seems to work ok. Still not sure why defaultPP worked anyway and sjanssenPP didn't work (this led to my confusion), but it's not important. Apologies, please ignore this issue:( -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. darcs patch: Ignore cloned screens (and 3 more)
by Joachim Breitner 01 Jan '08

01 Jan '08

Mon Dec 31 19:06:28 CET 2007 Joachim Breitner <mail(a)joachim-breitner.de> * Ignore cloned screens This patch ignores screens that are just clones of existing ones, or are completely contained in another. Currently only for rescreen, not yet for xmonad start. Mon Dec 31 19:15:56 CET 2007 Joachim Breitner <mail(a)joachim-breitner.de> * Put the screen removing stuff in getCleanedScreenInfo Mon Dec 31 19:21:31 CET 2007 Joachim Breitner <mail(a)joachim-breitner.de> * use getCleanedScreenInfo in Main.hs as well This might be a bit ugly, but it was the least invasive way to get the list of ScreenIDs into the StackSet. Mon Dec 31 19:24:54 CET 2007 Joachim Breitner <mail(a)joachim-breitner.de> * Adjust test for the ScreenId passing

Issue 115: sjanssenPP unlike defaultPP gives parsing error in xmobar if titlebar contains "{" and "}" char http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=115 New issue report by iddo333: What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. echo -ne "\033]0;{mytitle}\007" && cat 2. or just: echo -ne "\033]0;mytitle}\007" && cat What is the expected output? What do you see instead? Should be {mytitle}, but there's a parsing error message instead. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad 0.5 on ubuntu 7.10 note: defaultPP also messes up the placement of the "}" char, but at least all the other chars are ok and there's no parsing error. Issue 115: sjanssenPP unlike defaultPP gives parsing error in xmobar if titlebar contains "{" and "}" char http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=115 Comment #2 by andrea.rossato: sorry for the typos (I pushed "Submit Changes" too early)... what I meant was: XMonad.Hooks.DynamicLog provides a function, dynamicLogXmobar, which gives you some nice pretty printer defaults to be used with xmobar. Have a look at XMonad.Config.Arossato as an usage example. andrea -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Issue 115: sjanssenPP unlike defaultPP gives parsing error in xmobar if titlebar contains "{" and "}" char http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=115 Comment #1 by andrea.rossato: I'm sure Spencer is using the alignSep option in .xmobarrc to set different character for aligning text in xmobar. take into account the XMonad.Hooks.DynamicLog also provides with useful pretty printer default for xmobar: dynamicLogXmobar. I would say that the module maintainer, Don, is a bit dzen biased, but I hardly think of it as a bug. I'd call this report as invalid... but I'll wait a bit...;) Andrea -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. Still trying to get xmonad to worky in gnome. Is this not just like the XMonad.Hooks.ManageDocks doc? There are also the other ghc-6.8.2 packages that are needed for running, configuring, and reconfiguring xmonad: http://code.haskell.org/~arossato/xmonad-slack/ other slackware packages can be found here: http://gorgias.mine.nu/slack/haskell/ hope you'll enjoy. andrea
