darcs patch: only display any given window once.
by David Roundy 25 Jun '07

25 Jun '07

This is probably the last patch of the day in the sticky window series. At this point, I think I've got things working as nicely as I want them to. I haven't implemented "true" stickiness, which would be a command to put a window in *every* workspace at once, since I myself don't want that. But that's a two-liner (one-liner, if you don't count the type signature), so I'll leave that in case anyone wants it (presumably this would be for people who don't use RotView, or who want to extend RotView to ignore sticky windows). David Sun Jun 24 09:25:21 PDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * only display any given window once. This change goes along with the sticky window work. It makes xmonad display each window once and only once, with preference given to the focussed screen. It has no effect when there are no duplicate windows, except to make things less efficient. We could do better using Data.Set (or Data.Map) to store the set of windows that are visible.

Issue 29 in xmonad: MergeFB " Pseudo" Xinerama not supported

Issue 29: MergeFB "Pseudo" Xinerama not supported http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=29 Comment #6 by Ulrich.Pfeifer: Hello, it now does recognize the Screens. I did not change the procedure; even used the shell history to recompile x11-extra and xmonad. Anyway, here is the output: % DISPLAY=:1 ghc -e 'Graphics.X11.Xinerama.compiledWithXinerama' True % DISPLAY=:1 ghc -e 'Graphics.X11.Xlib.Display.openDisplay "" >>= Graphics.X11.Xinerama.xineramaQueryScreens' Just [XineramaScreenInfo {xsi_screen_number = 0, xsi_x_org = 1440, xsi_y_org = 0, xsi_width = 1024, xsi_height = 768},XineramaScreenInfo {xsi_screen_number = 1, xsi_x_org = 0, xsi_y_org = 0, xsi_width = 1440, xsi_height = 900}] I am going to test the migration of Workspaces between screens now. error compiling NoBorders
by Tobias Hammerschmidt 24 Jun '07

24 Jun '07

Hi @ all, I've got a problem (once again). I'd like to hold presentations in fullscreen mode. Therefore I tried to build xmonad with the module NoBorders. But when I'm going to compile xmonad I'm getting the following error: $ runghc Setup.lhs build Preprocessing executables for xmonad-0.2... Building xmonad-0.2... [4 of 8] Compiling Config[boot] ( Config.hs-boot, nothing ) [7 of 8] Compiling Config ( Config.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/Config.o ) Config.hs:33:0: Warning: Definition but no type signature for `layouts' [8 of 8] Compiling Main ( Main.hs, dist/build/xmonad/xmonad-tmp/Main.o ) Main.hs:65:14: Ambiguous occurrence `layouts' It could refer to either `layouts', imported from XMonad at Main.hs:30:0-12 or `layouts', imported from Config at Main.hs:31:0-12 (defined at Config.hs:33:0) Sorry but my haskell knowledge is slightly above >>putStrLn "Hello world!"<< so I'm not able to fix it myself (however I hope that I can dive into haskell after my exams in july). PS: I followed the usage description in the module NoBorders. Xmonad and XMonadContrib are from darcs (pulled yesterday). tobias

Issue 29 in xmonad: MergeFB " Pseudo" Xinerama not supported

Issue 29: MergeFB "Pseudo" Xinerama not supported http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=29 Comment #5 by SpencerJanssen: As you may realize, I suspect that this is a build issue rather than a problem with the code. I've just added a little diagnostic support in X11-extras, please upgrade and run: ghc -e 'Graphics.X11.Xlib.Display.openDisplay "" >>= Graphics.X11.Xinerama.xineramaQueryScreens' ghc -e 'Graphics.X11.Xinerama.compiledWithXinerama' Try this from a brand new 'darcs get' of X11-extras, to rule out the possibility of any old configuration bits causing problems. If this isn't a build issue, I'm not sure what's going on -- the C code you've posted seems equivalent to the code currently in X11-extras. -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue. darcs patch: move Spiral to LayoutHelpers. (and 3 more)
by David Roundy 24 Jun '07

24 Jun '07

Hi all, Here's a massive patch to move code over to the new doLayout. I don't recall what tabbed+Xinerama did before, but right now the tabs are only properly printed on the screen that has focus (at least using LayoutScreens to fake Xinerama). I haven't figured out why this is, and am tired, so this is where this is going to be left for the day. It doesn't seem to me like a big deal, since you can't click on those tabs until you put the focus on that screen. Not that I don't want to fix it, but I would like to see these patches applied in spite of the problem, since this particular breakage is mild enough that it shouldn't hurt anyone's productivity. David Sat Jun 23 07:35:16 PDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * move Spiral to LayoutHelpers. Sat Jun 23 07:35:42 PDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * introduce idModify which is just "const (return Nothing)". Sat Jun 23 07:37:45 PDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * move Accordian to use idModify. Sat Jun 23 14:09:52 PDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * make everything work with new doLayout. This modifies all the contrib modules to work (so far as I know) with the new contrib layout. The exception is the LayoutHooks module, which isn't used. It exports an API that is inherently unsafe, so far as I can tell (and always has been).

Issue 29: MergeFB "Pseudo" Xinerama not supported http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=29 New issue report by Ulrich.Pfeifer: The current code does only support real Xinerama Screens. If the setup is a MergeFB one with Pseudo Xinerama Screens, it is not detected. The following C-Code does find the rectangles (should also find the rectangles in real Xinerama mode): if(XineramaQueryExtension(ioncore_g.dpy, &event_base, &error_base)){ xi=XineramaQueryScreens(ioncore_g.dpy, &nxi); if(xi!=NULL){ for(i=0; i<nxi; i++){ { fprintf(out,"Xinerama screen (%d,%d) %dx%d\n", xi[i].x_org, xi[i].y_org, xi[i].width, xi[i].height); } } } } What steps will reproduce the problem?
