Maybe it should be included in the mainline? Install xmonad on arch 2. Upgrade to the latest ghc 6.10.4 3. Observe the failure of xmonad.hs to compile. In fact no haskell libraries are bing imported correctly. What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I see the error xmonad.hs:1:7: Could not find module `Xmonad`: What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? I just upgraded to xmonad 0.8.1 and I'm on arch linux 64 bits. Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". Error detected while loading xmonad configuration file: /home/matt/.xmonad/xmonad.hs on the commandline: Warning: -no-recomp is deprecated: Use -fforce-recomp instead xmonad.hs:1:7: Could not find module `XMonad': it is not a module in the current program, or in any known package. alt q causes crash

I'm a non-programmer type who has gotten xmonad working great by cut and pasting from the wiki -- with one caveat -- when I hit alt q, not only does nothing happen, but I lose all keyboard shortcuts. I looked through the documentation, and I get the impression I have to change the key settings in some way that is beyond my limited abilities. Any help greatly appreciated. I load from .xinitrc and had to set the path in this file to load xmonad from my ~/.cabal/bin directory. I have a feeling this has something to do with the problem. I'm not sure if this is intended behavior, but if --disable-factory is also passed, then scratchpad works properly. This confused me for a bit so I think it makes sense to change the comment. This is a rewrite of a patch I sent some time ago, to which there was no response, so I assume it was just forgotten. It has a cleaner interface than my previous attempt. These patches add support for storing custom state information in XState in contrib modules as an alternative to using IORefs, which adds more complexity to the user interface. As an example, users of X.A.SpawnOn, no longer have to call mkSpawner, pass that IORef to their keybindings and the manage hook, but can now just add manageSpawn to their manageHook and use the keybindings normally. The same applies to X.H.DynamicHooks. It also removes uses of unsafePerformIO in X.H.UrgencyHook which were there to avoid the described interface complexity.
