Hello, There is a startupHook in XConfig. I'm missing shutdownHook however. Is there any proper way to execute custom code when xmonad is about to exit? Thanks, Juraj

Autohiding of the Gnome-Panel

I use xmonad and Gnome and I would like to use a gnome-panel with autohiding. But with autohiding the gnome-panel stays always behind the windows and can't be accessed. A google search only showed me a rather old bug report. I've tried avoidStruts from XMonad-Hooks-ManageDocks, but it didn't help. Is there a solution? Greetings Ralph

XMC.Prompt: changing greenXPConfig to have no border

I've been mulling for a while what border color would go best with the terminal-style greenXPConfig prompt (green text on black background), since the default white was clearly unsatisfactory. I tried yellow for a while, but that didn't seem much better. Then I realized the problem was there being a border at all, and that I ought to do just: hunk ./XMonad/Prompt.hs 226 -greenXPConfig = defaultXPConfig { fgColor = "green", bgColor = "black" } +greenXPConfig = defaultXPConfig { fgColor = "green", bgColor = "black", promptBorderWidth = 0 } Simple enough. It pleases me. [Note: I sent an incorrect patch earlier, but I think the mail bounced. If you see another mail like this one, this is the correct one.] Took me a while to get around to it, but this should fix issue 343. Spencer's idea of passing in the workarounds is more correct, but given that the workarounds only seem to be necessary for pre-3.0 mozilla apps, I don't think it's necessary (yet).

EWMH Panel in Haskell

Hi, recently switched from dwm to xmonad. I'm quite happy with this decision, but I'm used to have a good status bar on top of the screen. I tried xmobar, which had problems with background colors, and dzen2 (with dmplex and multiple instances). None of these status bars supports mouse interaction, so they aren't a choice for me. Since xmonad also implements the emwh specification, I tried out several ewmh compliant panels. ouriço was most similar to dwm's status bar, but doesn't seem very customisable and extensible to me. Although I'm not an experienced Haskell programmer and I find Haskell very ugly and a bit limiting, I think it would be a good idea to write a ewmh panel in Haskell. Is there an existing code? What are the drawbacks of ewmh (I read about conceptual problems with xrandr)? Regards, Matthias-Christian

Customizing xmonad on debian lenny

I have been trying to customize a couple of things in xmonad 0.7 following the online tutorials to the letter and after a week of frustration, I'm beginning to think that these tutorials only cover the current release, which would explain why whatever I tried always seemed to result in bizarre undocumented errors. The product works fine out of the box as long as you just use the defaults, but there are just a couple of things I need to change, such as some of the key bindings (which happen to clash with bindings I have defined in applications I run frequently), as well as the default terminal and the corresponding $TERM environment variable, for instance. Besides, I would like to set up a system status bar at the bottom of the screen, and apparently this is not available by default. This is a debian stable aka "lenny" system, and the version of xmonad is as expected pretty ancient. I wouldn't mind installing the current stable version of xmonad, but since the version from the debian stable repository pulled something like 400 Meg of Haskell dependencies, I have a feeling this is probably not going to be straightforward. Or should I wait till the current debian testing, aka squeeze becomes stable, and hopefully things will work as advertised? Please advise. CJ
