What is the expected output? What do you see instead? gimp automatically opens in stacking mode, as that is gimp's natural environment. fontforge, which has a similar interface, should too. instead xmonad tiles it. Using the Chromium package, "chromium-browser" What is the expected output? A running chromium instance. What do you see instead? The program 'chromium-browser' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'. (Details: serial 116 error_code 3 request_code 20 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad 0.9, installed from Hackage Xubuntu 9.10 Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". Please provide any additional information below. Error does not happen when using xfce + Xubuntu 9.10, nor in xmonad 0.9 + Xubuntu 9.04. What do you see instead? Nothing happens. This doesn't occur with other WM (metacity). Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". Start Google Chrome/Chromium. 2. Go to Options -> Under the Hood -> Clear browsing data... 3. Or Options -> Personal Stuff -> Import data from another browser... What is the expected output? What do you see instead? A dialog pops up (assuming you've set up xmonad to float dialogs), but it's shaking all the time and basically useless. Tiling the dialog does make it usable, but it's just a workaround. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? Darcs version on Arch. Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". Please provide any additional information below. I'm not really sure whether to blame XMonad or Google Chrome. Importing Stackset qualified

I noticed yesterday in my config, 'import qualified XMonad.StackSet as W', and I wondered - why do we do that? Is there some rationale behind it or is it just tradition? floating problems - vlc and dialogs

Hi, in my xmonad.hs I have: -- manage hook - when new clients appear floatAll = composeAll . map (\s -> className =? s --> doFloat) myManageHook = floatAll ["Gimp", "Wine", "vlc", "MPlayer", "VLC (XVideo output)"] <+> manageDocks <+> (isFullscreen --> doFullFloat) MPlayer and gimp are floated perfectly. VLC is not. Why not? Also, is there a way to generally float dialogs? Thanks! Nathan

The general idea is there, some more utility functions may need to be written, especially with respect to layout modifiers, which are treated specially, though the method used to reorder functions could be applied to the rest of the config. Refer to XMonad.Config.Arrow.Sample for an example. This is inspired by comments in Spencer's XMonad.Config.Monad (which doesn't work).
