I noticed that many issues in https://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/list still list dons or sjanssen as their owners; both of them have pretty much permanently checked out of Xmonad development. Should we remove all of them? -- gwern http://www.gwern.net

What do you see instead? I expect ratpoison behavior - to show hotkey cheat sheet by pressing Mod-? (question mark, Shift-/) What version of the product are you using? Cleaning up maintainer fields (contrib)

I've started cleaning up the xmonad-contrib maintainer fields to orphan modules that are marked as maintained by people who have long since moved on. Some are obvious, like Andrea's, but for the others two weeks ago I sent out a "phone home" email to the people who've not been around since sending a patch years ago. Most of them have current emails, so after 9 Jan if I've not heard back from them I'm planning to mark their modules orphaned. Two people no longer have working emails. Please if any one knows how to contact Miikka Koskinen or James Webb, forward their contact info to me off list, or simply ask them if they want to keep maintainership and if so, to provide a current maintainer email address. Aftwerward I'm planning to start an adopt an orphan drive for modules that still see a lot of use and potential development, and to mark stable the ones that haven't changed in years. The ones I have on my "to orphan" list so far are Spencer's, Dons', Andrea's, Roundy's, and Roman C's (he told me he's moved on.) Thoughts, comments? -- wmw

Select grid shape and sort elements for XMonad.Actions.GridSelect

Hello everybody, I have decided to post my patch to improve GridSelect so that you can choose the grid shape and you can sort elements. I decided to do this patch because I don't like the idea to use a diamond grid for my workspaces without any order. It is too confusing for me. With my patch gridselect can show workspaces in a row sorted by tag. The defaultGSConfig has not been touched so that my patch will not break existent configuration using that. If you want to show and sort workspaces in a row you can change your xmonad.hs by putting this: gridselectWorkspace defaultGSConfig { gs_shaper = line, gs_elementSort = sort } where sort is the function from the list module. zaphod mode

Forgive me for asking a question that has probably been asked already, but I cannot find the answer: Is it possible to get xmonad to work with zaphod mode? I specifically need the ability to associate each xmonad workspace with a different CRTC. Is that possible? Thanks, Martin

Shifting client-instances to workspaces

Hello! As this is my first submission to a mailinglist ever, I hope I do everything right ;) I am trying to learn Haskell, and as my fascination for this language grew, I considered shifting from i3 to xmonad. So far, everything more or less works. Now I am trying to pimp my configuration from a minimal one to a more sophisticated one. I added the ability to shift clients automatically to a workspace. So, when I start Firefox it is opened on my www-workspace automatically. I want the same for Irssi and Alpine and my Emacs. I want them opened on the communiaction-workspace, or the coding-workspace ;) But all of them are running withing URxvt, so the class is always URxvt. In i3 you are able to shift a client-instance to a workspace, like so: assign [class="URxvt" instance="irssi"] -> 2|com Is something similar possible in xmonad? And if so, how? xmobar dynamic resizing failing?

I'm running xmonad +xmobar in a VM, and have noticed that xmobar will resize down if I shrink the window the VM displays in, but not resize up if I then make it larger. Has anyone looked into this? Thanks, <mike

Dynamic xmobar spawning

Hi, I'd like to get XMonad to spawn an xmobar for each monitor based on the current number of montiors that are present. This includes spawning new instances when monitors appear and tearing them down when they're taken offline[1]. I've gotten most of the logic done (on a branch that I've neglected to push from my work machines yet) and it involves some code from adamvo's config[3] including getScreens, multiPP, and mergePPOutputs which would indeed be good to get into contrib. In my case, since I use xmonadpropwrite for xmobar so that a single xmobar launch works independently of xmonad, it also requires a change in xmobar itself to accept *supplemental* commands to run from the command line. A branch with this support is on my github fork[4]. The last part is where I've hit a snag. I've tried to get some Xrandr support into the X11 package, but my experience with the FFI is pretty much nil and I've been unable to get something that looks/feels good beyond what is already done in xmobar itself. There's also the question of whether an X11-Xrandr package makes more sense (Xinerama is already there, but xft isn't). I imagine xmobar would also pick up the code that gets put into X11 or X11-Xrandr for its Xrandr needs instead of its own bindings if/when that happens. never show infobars on certain workspace

hi! i'm looking for the method how to avoid showing infobars like dzenbar on a particular workspace. is it possible? if yes, could someone give concrete hints and recommendations how to implement it? i use xmonad-darcs and bars are spawned with the following lines: main = do myStatusBarPipe <- spawnPipe myStatusBar conkyBar <- spawnPipe myConkyBar
