darcs patch: X.A.Navigation2D
by Norbert Zeh 14 Dec '11

14 Dec '11

Finally, Wirt and I think this is ready to be shared with the broader xmonad community. Wirt certainly deserves credit for lots of useful feedback and lots of thorough testing I wouldn't have had the patience to do. 1 patch for repository http://code.haskell.org/XMonadContrib: Thu Dec 8 16:58:42 AST 2011 Norbert Zeh <nzeh(a)cs.dal.ca> * X.A.Navigation2D This is a new module to support directional navigation across multiple screens. As such it is related to X.A.WindowNavigation and X.L.WindowNavigation, but it is more general. For a detailed discussion of the differences, see http://www.cs.dal.ca/~nzeh/xmonad/Navigation2D.pdf.

Issue 487 in xmonad: XMonad.Util.Run documentation is incorrect
by codesite-noreply＠google.com 11 Dec '11

11 Dec '11

Status: New Owner: ---- New issue 487 by chris...@gmail.com: XMonad.Util.Run documentation is incorrect http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=487 The documentation for XMonad.Util.Run.seconds includes this code as an example [1]: -- Use like: -- -- > (5.5 `seconds`) However, using the example gives this error in GHC 7.0.3: The operator `seconds' takes two arguments, but its type `Rational -> Int' has only one This is because the Haskell Report [2] explicitly defines operator sections to only work with two argument functions. The corrected documentation (although less pretty) should be: -- Use like: -- -- > seconds 5.5 [1] http://xmonad.org/xmonad-docs/xmonad-contrib/XMonad-Util-Run.html#v:seconds [2] http://www.haskell.org/onlinereport/haskell2010/haskellch3.html#x8-300003.5

Who runs the mailing list?
by Magnus Therning 08 Dec '11

08 Dec '11

I just re-subscribed, after a long semi-pleasant stay in Gnome3-land I've decided I had enough and decided to come back to Xmonad :) Anyway, when subscribing I noticed that the list claims to be run by "dons at galois.com". AFAIK he's left Galois, does the mail address still work? Otherwise I think the list should be re-configured a little. /M -- Magnus Therning OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4 email: magnus(a)therning.org jabber: magnus(a)therning.org twitter: magthe http://therning.org/magnus

rearranging drag and drop toolbars (eg: inkscape)
by Rogan Creswick 08 Dec '11

08 Dec '11

Is there a trick to rearranging drag and drop toolbars on apps in xmonad? I use inkscape quite a lot, and it recently moved one of the basic toolbars from the top of the window to the right side (during a screen resolution change), and I can't figure out how to get it back. Generally, I'd just grab the handle on the toolbar, and drag it up to the general area it should go, and it would snap into place. However, as soon as I drag the handle, the toolbar becomes another tiled window, which snaps into an xmonad layout. I /can/ drag the window around by the internal gtk handle, but it doesn't snap back into the application unless I close the window that was created when I dragged the toolbar out of inkscape -- when I do that, it returns to the original location in inkscape (on the right side). Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks! Rogan

Ignore single window for focus follows mouse?
by Joseph Garvin 07 Dec '11

07 Dec '11

The FAQ mentions you can set focusFollowsMouse to false to disable it completely, but I'd like to disable focus following the mouse only when moving the mouse over a particular window (the pointer going over any other window should still cause that window to get focus). Is there an easy way to do that?

Problem with maximize on a 3 display setup
by Robert Schultz 05 Dec '11

05 Dec '11

Hello I have three displays. A center display at 2560x1440 and a portrait display on each side at 1200x1920 I use xinerama and seperate xorg screen configurations. Almost everything works great, I can mouse around my displays, move windows between them, size between them. My xmobar is correctly on the bottom of each one. However when I maximize a window, xmonad only correctly maximizes on the left and center display. On the far right display it only maximizes to the first 1423 pixels and leaves the rest below blank. I can still size a window to the full height, and my xmobar is still on the very bottom and my wallpaper goes the whole way up. It's just maximized windows when handled by xmonad it doesn't think the monitor is taller. I asked for help on IRC and someone felt that it probably had something to do with struts not being calculated correctly or something. That some how maybe my xmonad was using some measurements from the middle monitor for the right monitor. I was using some older xmonad and xmobar versions, but as of Dec 3rd I updated latest xmonad from darcs (http://code.haskell.org/xmonad) and the latest xmobar from GIT (https://github.com/jaor/xmobar) Updating to the latest had no effect. My xmonad.hs file is: http://pastebin.com/JsFY5LXi .xmobarrc-left: http://pastebin.com/d3W8fpqA .xmobarrc-center: http://pastebin.com/jje5NsiJ .xmobarrc-right: http://pastebin.com/ay8Ct7AH My xorg.conf file is: http://pastebin.com/0t7b1JER Could someone help me out? I would GREATLY appreciate it :)

Reminder: update your Config Archive!
by Gwern Branwen 04 Dec '11

04 Dec '11

With 0.10 solidly released, now is an excellent time for all XMonad users to update the copy of their config on the Haskell wiki: http://haskell.org/haskellwiki/Xmonad/Config_archive Version numbers need to be bumped, etc. For those wondering why, I'd point out that the config archive is downloadable via a script and I and others have used it in the past to look into what functions to add where and how to deal with changes in modules; and further, the config archive is a valuable resource for newbies trying to understand the options on offer and looking to crib code. -- gwern http://www.gwern.net
