xmonad and VirtualBox/VNC
by Lara Michaels 16 Jun '11

16 Jun '11

Hello I've noticed that when a VirtualBox window (in which I am running MS Windows XP) has focus keypresses directed at xmonad (mod key + some other key) are handled by VirtualBox (and the guest operating system it is running) rather than xmonad. The same happens when using a VNC client such as vinagre: keypresses directed at xmonad end up being received by the remote machine I am working with. Is there a way to avoid this and have xmonad intercept these keypresses? thanks ~lara

Re: [xmonad] Xmonad - Archlinux | Rdesktop and Clipboard

Ok, To reduce the problem only happen with Windows 7 remote desktop session. With 2003 server the clipboard works fine. Changing the default for toggle messages?
by Joseph Garvin 13 Jun '11

13 Jun '11

I have a keybinding setup for ToggleStruts so I can control gnome-panel's visibility. By default, gnome-panel is visible on all desktops. Is there an easy way to have gnome-panel be invisible by default? I like to have it available but 99% of the time I'm not interested in it. -Joe G.

XMonad.Layout.Monitor - ToggleMonitor message not working
by Jochen Keil 12 Jun '11

12 Jun '11

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I've been trying to set up XMonad.Layout.Monitor. Instead of the cairo-clock example from the docs I've taken xclock. Unfortunately hiding/showing using the ToggleMonitor message does not work. I've tried to ignore xclock with the doIgnore managehook before the manageMonitor hook. Furthermore I've run xmonad with defaultConfig and only the manageMonitor hook applied. However, neither helped. Any ideas/hints on this issue? Issue 459 in xmonad: Focus does not follow mouse when changing workspace
by codesite-noreply＠google.com 11 Jun '11

11 Jun '11

Status: New Owner: ---- New issue 459 by christia...@gmail.com: Focus does not follow mouse when changing workspace http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=459 The following assumes focusFollowsMouse = True Steps to reproduce: 1. Prepare a workspace with two terminals separated vertically like this: T1|T2 2. Make sure the first terminal T1 has focus. 3. Switch to another workspace. 4. Position the mouse cursor in the right region of the screen so that it will hover over T2 when you switch back to that workspace. 5. Switch back to the workspace prepared in step 1. Expected output should be one of the following: 1. T2 should automatically gain focus since the mouse now hover that terminal. 2. Focus should remain but as soon as you move the mouse cursor (thus hovering T2 again) it should switch focus to T2. Current behavior forces me to move the cursor first over T1 (which still has focus) and then back over T2 or alternately click T2. I am using xmonad version 0.9.2. I have attached my configuration file which is pretty close to default. Attachments: xmonad.hs 11.1 KB

"xmonad-desktop"
by Jens Petersen 10 Jun '11

Hi, I made a simple little package called xmonad-desktop to make it easier for newcomers to get started with xmonad on desktop environments. https://github.com/juhp/xmonad-desktop Before releasing it on hackage I thought I would "pre-announce" it here for any comments or feedback. Thanks, Jens

Re: [xmonad] xmonad and VirtualBox/VNC
by Lara Michaels 10 Jun '11

Just to clarify, I know I could disable the "automatic keyboard capture" feature of VirtualBox, but that is so useful that I would prefer to solve this on the xmonad side if at all possible. (Furthermore, it wouldn't solve the issue with the VNC client...) thanks ~l --- On Thu, 6/9/11, Lara Michaels <laramichaels1978(a)yahoo.com> wrote: > From: Lara Michaels <laramichaels1978(a)yahoo.com> > Subject: xmonad and VirtualBox/VNC > To: xmonad(a)haskell.org > Date: Thursday, June 9, 2011, 5:37 PM > Hello > > I've noticed that when a VirtualBox window (in which I am > running MS Windows XP) has focus keypresses directed at > xmonad (mod key + some other key) are handled by VirtualBox > (and the guest operating system it is running) rather than > xmonad. darcs patches: Cleanup in X.L.LayoutBuilderP and a new module for xmonad-extras
by Ilya Portnov 09 Jun '11

09 Jun '11

Hi again. The first patch removes (unused there) datatype declaration from X.L.LayoutBuilderP module, and exports Predicate typeclass from it. instance Predicate p w declaration means that "p" type may be used as (monadic) predicate on "w" type. Obvious example is instance Predicate Property Window. Other examples could represent some predicates on window groups or smth else. The second patch is for xmonad-extras repository. It adds new module, XMonad.Util.WindowPropertiesRE. PropertyRE is almost same as X.U.WindowProperties.Property, but while Property needs exact string (title/window class/whatever) matching, PropertyRE uses regular expressions matching. For example, Title "#xmonad" matches only windows having exactly "#xmonad" in title, but RE (Title "xmonad") matches windows with titles "xmonad(a)conference.jabber.ru" and "#xmonad" and so on. Also X.U.WindowPropertiesRE module contains instance declaration for Predicate PropertyRE Window. To use regular expression, I added build-depend from "regex-posix" package into xmonad-extras.cabal. WBR, Ilya Portnov.

[patch] output exitcode when no xmonad.error output
by Jens Petersen 09 Jun '11

09 Jun '11

Hi, If xmonad is running without ghc installed for some reason and one tries to restart it (mod-q), the recompile error dialog doesn't contain any useful error message from execv (it fails silently when it can't find the command). Here is a small patch to output the exitcode when compilation fails and xmonad.error is empty. Jens
