What do you see instead? Tabs should display as they used to. Instead inactive tabs disappear (become transparent). What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad 0.9.1 Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". Yes. No output at all. Please provide any additional information below. Note that tabbedAlways layout from XMonad.Layout.Tabbed works fine.

qtile like stack layout

I have been trying to get a stacked layout that works similar to the layout used in the qtile window manager. This works by having two stacks of windows that take 1/2 the screen each and can either show one the current window or all the windows in the current stack. ie --------------------------------+------------------------------------------- | stack 1 | stack2 | | window 1 | window 1 | | | | | +------------------------------------------| | | | | -------------------------------|window 2 | | window 2 | | || +-----------------------------------------| | | | | | window 3 | | | | --------------------------------+-------------------------------------------| The important thing with this is that the two columns can have windows added independently rather than a master slave arrangement which you get with the tall layout. This looks like something that combineTwo should be able to do but I don't really know enough about haskell or xmonad to get this working. Any suggestions on how to do this Joe

In XMC's repo, I only saw rearrangements, tweaks, some revamps by me of XMonad.Util.Run not really worth mentioning, and 2 new modules added. Wishing for a slightly different functionality with LayoutScreens

Hi, I wished for a layout in which the bottom 1/10th of my screen would have a fixed few things (mostly filled with tail -f's of logs and such), while being free to use the rest of the upper 9/10 of the screen normally. I was suggested I play with LayoutScreens for this. The idea was that it would "divide" the screen in half -- pretend as if I had two monitors... I tried it out. It's working. I'm using the lines in this page exactly: http://xmonad.org/xmonad-docs/xmonad-contrib/XMonad-Layout-LayoutScreens.ht… i.e.: import XMonad.Layout.LayoutScreens import XMonad.Layout.TwoPane --[....] , ((modm .|. shiftMask, xK_space), layoutScreens 2 (TwoPane 0.5 0.5)) , ((modm .|. controlMask .|. shiftMask, xK_space), rescreen) And this very nicely gets me what I wanted -- but just with one problem. Instead of the division being vertical, it's horizontal. To give you a pictorial depiction, instead of it being like this: [workspace 1] [workspace 2], it's sort of like this: [workspace 1][workspace 2] I would appreciate any suggestions on how I can have it like the first depiction. I hope you're kind and use small words -- I'm new to both Haskell and XMonad :) Thank you very much for your time, -Kyle

xmonad-contrib and mtl-2 -- bugfix release?

It was just pointed out in #haskell by mreh that the version of xmonad-contrib currently released on Hackage fails to build, since it does not specify version bounds on its mtl dependency, but fails to build with mtl-2, since XMonad.Utils.CustomKeys uses the Reader constructor and HintedGrid uses State. This has since been fixed; the darcs version of xmonad-contrib builds fine with mtl-1 and mtl-2. However, it's poor form to have the released version fall over if you just do 'cabal install xmonad-contrib'. Concretely, I propose that we do a spot bugfix release of just the 0.9.1 tag + the patch that fixed the mtl-2 incompatibility: Mon Nov 15 18:26:54 EST 2010 Adam Vogt <vogt.adam(a)gmail.com> * Compatibility with mtl-1 and mtl-2 The other option would be to do a point release of whatever is currently in darcs, but that would be more work to do properly. Behaviour of window stack when closing a window

Hi! When closing a window, the focus goes to the next window in the stack, if it exists (e.g. "head $ down currentStack"). What is the best way to change that behaviour to let the focus go to the previous window in the window stack (e.g. "head $ up currentStack")? (btw: This is my first post to a list using a newsreader client, so: Am I doing this right?) Thanks, Sönke

Hey all, Just to let the community know: over time Spencer and I have had less and less time to coordinate releases and maintain the core of xmonad. Thankfully, we have a large group of excellent, active contributors. The time has come to recognize the bottlenecks are me and Spencer, and as a result, I'd like to announce that Adam Vogt has been added as a committer to the core system, with authority to coordinate releases and uploads to Hackage. Expect progress now on the GHC 7 support release, as Adam works with the team to schedule the release. Thank you Adam, for stepping up! -- Don Stewart

New module: XMonad.Layout.Fullscreen

The attached darcs patch to XMonadContrib adds a new module implementing a (IMHO) much better way of handling fullscreen windows than the existing fullscreenEventHook from EwmhDesktops. Instead of simply fullFloating the window, this module sends a layout message so that the layout can itself determine how to handle the window. Three proof-of-concept layout modifiers are provided, that illustrate the flexibility of this approach: Two varietes to add fullscreen handlig to the layout, and one hackish modifier that adds fullscreen handling to the floating layer. All of these modifiers also have variants that allow you to specify which part of the screen the fullscreened window should fill. I hope you will find this useful.
