Status: New Owner: ---- New issue 276 by redbeard0531: switching keyboard focus to a wine app is odd http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=276 What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. run "wine notepad" (should be installed with wine) 2. type some text (works now) 3. use alt-j/k to move focus away from notepad and back 4. type some text (nothing happons) 5. click on notepad 6. type some test (works now) Note: for step 5 you could also switch to another workspace and back, hiding and showing notepad, and focus would return. What is the expected output? What do you see instead? wine should be notified of recieving focus, no matter how it occurs. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad 0.8.1 on ArchLinux wine-1.1.15 Please provide any additional information below. AwsomeWM also has this issue. Alt-tab to switch focus works in xfwm4 (xfce). X.M.TabbedModifier is the Tabbed-Solution

Hy everybody, the patch by Adam Vogt containing the "TabbedModifier" seems the solution to my wishes (see my mail "Real Tabbing support"). Although its not perfekt at the moment it seems the right way. I got the following anotations: 1. Before applying it to the rep fix the following error: The documentation is wrong, it imports a module named Tabify which was renamed to TabbedModifier. Also the keybinding for the "UnTab" is wrong, it should read: "sendMessage . Tab.UnTab" instead of "sendMessage . UnTab" because of the imorts. 2. Sometimes, some of the tab-headers are not drawn but stay empty. 3. Sometimes a tab-switch also moves the whole window around. To repoduce check the following: Take a empty Workspace with the "Tall" Layout. Open three console-windows and open some applications in them (ill take top, htop and mutt). Stack all of the to the left (using Ctrl+Mod+H), so that all three are on the same tabbed-stack. Now UnTab the first window (moves to the right) and try switiching tabs (two tabs remain). On every Tab-Switch the Tab-Stack moves from left to right or right to left. 4. A keybinding for only switching tabs is missing. So Adam, thanks a lot for your work! complexity of 'windows'

I'm looking at the 'windows' function, and do not understand why it's so complicated. If it's just WindowSet -> WindowSet ... why is it so long? I ask this because I want to manipulate the WindowSet of a workspace that is _NOT_ visible; the only function that is WindowSet -> WindowSet is "windows". However, windows has W.current hard coded into it -- and I'm not sure what all of the other stuff in there is.

I have the following in xmonad.hs: myWorkspaces = ["0", "1", "2"] ... [((m .|. mod4Mask, key), screenWorkspace sc >>= flip whenJust (windows . f)) | (key, sc) <- zip [xK_y, xK_u, xK_i] [0..] , (f, m) <- [(W.shift, 0), (W.shift, shiftMask)]] now, I'm also using screenLayout, giving me two 'workspaces' on a single screen mod4-y & mod4-u work when I have two workspcaes visible, but mod4-i does not when I only have one workspace visbile, mod4-u and mod4-i both do not work is there some rule saying "you can only send windows to visible workspaces" ? thanks!

odd interaction between xmonad and tsclient

I sometimes use tsclient/rdesktop to connect to a Windows box. I find that once focus is inside the remote Windows desktop, any xmonad command depending on the use of the mode key (the Windows key, in my case) fails. The key press of the Windows key seems to go to the remote Windows box rather than to the local X system. I say this because pressing the Windows key immediately pops up the Windows start menu. I happen to run the gnome panel with a workspace switcher, and so can use it and the mouse to break out of the remote Windows session, but that seems inelegant. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or have a solution for it? Thank you, drc

in my .xmonad/xmonad.hs , I have: ++ [((m .|. mod4Mask, key), screenWorkspace sc >>= flip whenJust (windows . f)) | (key, sc) <- zip [xK_a, xK_f] [0..] , (f, m) <- [(W.view, 0)]] ++ [((m .|. mod4Mask, key), screenWorkspace sc >>= flip whenJust (windows . f)) | (key, sc) <- zip [xK_s, xK_d] [0..] , (f, m) <- [(W.shift, 0)]] now, instead of this, I'd perfer to have something where xK_f alternates between workspace 0 & 1 I'd also like to make xK_d to send current window to other workspace (this requires that I somehow know what my current workspace is -- is there a function to return this?)
