Infelicitous name choice in XPrompt.hs clashes with Config.hs

So I ran into a name-conflict with XPrompt.hs. The issue basically is that a function borderWidth is already defined in Config.hs. Thus, if one attempted to use a prompt configuration different than defaultXPConfig, and one defined it in one's Config.hs where it should be, then the borderWidth field would cause a warning by -Wall, since borderWidth is already a name being used by XMonad at large. -- gwern RUOP sh Al-Qaeda DOE SecDef owhere Gorelick military HoHoCon Stanley

Xinerama and mouse focus

Hi, I experience the following problem : - I logon to xmonad, my 2 screens are empty - the focus is on my first screen - I move my mouse over the second screen, then start a terminal => however the terminal starts on my first screen It seems to appear when I have an empty workspace. Here, just as a demonstration, I add a Show instance to the Layout class. This is by far the easy part, a Read instance is far more tricky, requiring that SomeLayout know the types of all possible layouts, which of course, wreaks havoc with configurability and modularity. Here's a cleaner Layout class patch. I've removed the ugly OldLayout, and now we've got one data type per Layout in Operations. This changes Config a little, since Full is now a data constructor, instead of the function full. We could, of course, define a function of the same name, but that seems a waste of space, although it would have the (minor) advantage of allowing the implementations to remain abstract. another borders thought

Rather than borders taking up a pixel that's not in any window, perhaps the colored borders could be drawn on top of windows (near their edges). Perhaps with some degree of transparency so they don't completely hide the bits behind them. (and their width could be more than one [pixel]) Just a thought Isaac

Issue 19: Investigate a way to allow contrib extensions to use compositing. http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=19 Comment #2 by alextarkovsky: I'd love an extension which allows me to dispense with window borders entirely by automatically setting the currently focused window to 100% opacity and all non-focused windows to low opacity. xcompmgr with transset-df are extremely lightweight and have all the functionality to accomplish that (xcompmgr also handles drop shadows and fading transition effects nicely), but unfortunately xcompmgr, being a demo app, seems to have been abandoned 3 years ago and remains very buggy (not to mention it's probably full of deprecated compositing API calls). A more daunting option might be to hook into Compiz Fusion, however it doesn't currently live happily with xmonad running (if anyone knows how to remedy that let me know!), and anyhow most of its functionality is useless in the xmonad context. Seems like bloat really.
