Hello, I have tried both greedy and non greedy workspace switching. Neither is to my taste. Has anyone found a way to bind workspaces to monitors? I would like to have workspaces 1-4 on monitor 1 and 5-8 on monitor 2. So that if I press mod-1 I would switch focus to monitor 1 and monitor 1 would switch to workspace 1. And then if I pressed mod-6 focus would switch to monitor 2 (leaving monitor 1 at workspace 1) and then monitor 2 would switch to workspace 6. Thank you for your time, Timothy

Is XMonad still developed or with a current maintainer?

Crossposted from Haskell cafè: Hi guys, looking at the Darcs repo it seems that something is happening, but XMonad wasn't updated in a year on Hackage and everything seems to be still. Is XMonad still actively developed? If yes, who is the current maintainer? It would be good to have him listed in the Hackage package description, to be able to contact him. Cheers, A.

Still seeing Java gray screens after applying patch from Issue 177

Dear Creators/Users of the most amazing window manager in all of cyberspace, I was running the xmonad & xmonad contrib from the ubuntu repos but java Charles web debugging proxy gave me gray screens. http://www.charlesproxy.com/ In order to run Java apps, I downloaded and patched XMonad 10.1 http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=177#makechanges I put the new compiled xmonad in my ~/.cabal/bin folder and linked /usr/bin/xmonad to ~/.cabal/bin/xmonad Without restarting X11, I did xmonad --recompile and still see grey screens when starting Java apps. I have Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit with sun java 1.7.0_09. I'm using Gnome3 with XMonad inside. my xmonad.hs is here http://pastebin.com/tgEBpEui my ghc-pkg list is here http://pastebin.com/wg6L8vdA I tried adding import XMonad.Hooks.ICCCMFocus to my xmonad.hs but that caused errors. Float dialogs over their parent windows?

Is there a way to make floating dialogs appear centered over their "parent" window? Or failing that, just above the currently focused one? It's kind of jarring when you open a dialog and it shows up somewhere else on screen, or even in another workspace. Thanks Jeff

Same className, different titles --> same managehook

I want to apply a similar configuration to some specific "children" from a window. I've been mixing managehooks, but looks very repetitive. composeAll [ className =? "Xfce4-panel" <&&> title =? "Panel" --> doFloat , className =? "Xfce4-panel" <&&> title =? "Add New Items" --> doFloat ...... ] <+> Which strategy should I use to make the same className applies to different titles? shiftInsert behavior and Chromium...

Chromium, like many other GTK apps does not draw a distinction between primary selection buffer and the clipboard, CTRL-V and Shift-Insert copy from the clipboard. I stumbled upon a way to fudge it in Chrome/Chromium (or any other designated application), so CTRL-V does what I expect, and Shift-Insert pastes the primary buffer's contents. So far, so good. But this unfortunately breaks the application I use separate clipboard and primary buffers the most: urxvt. One thing I did notice is that Shift-Ctrl-Insert works in urxvt with the above code enabled, but my muscle memory is for shiftInsert and I really don't want to change my behavior at this stage. As suggested in #xmonad, I've tried adding ,"urxvt" to translatedProgs, but that gives me the same undesirable behavior. Stumped yet again in XMonad land. Trey

How to prefix workspace names with numbers?

Hi, I'm a new xmonad user, and despite knowing next to no Haskell, I've made xmonad work pretty much the way I want it. Fantastic! Now there's only one major thing I miss. Let's get to the point before boring you with rationales; I want DynamicLog to prefix my workspace names with a number, e.g. "web", "chat", "work" becomes "1:web", "2:chat", "3:work". I found a previous discussion[1] in the mailing list and a zsh script[2], but I would like to do it directly in xmonad.hs, presumable where I define my PP. (I use dzen2 to display the workspace names, if it makes any difference). My PP is pretty standard, you can find it here: http://paste.kde.org/564734/ So why do I want this? I use DynamicWorkspaces to create and delete workspaces on the fly, but still prefer to use Mod(+shift)+<number> to switch and move windows between workspaces. This is a bit hard, however, without a number next to the workspace name. I know that you can bind a key to selectWorkspace, but I find it faster to switch using the traditional method when you don't have many workspaces. I'm using xmonad 0.10 and xmonad-contrib 0.10, but I guess I wouldn't mind trying out darcs if it's needed. Help would be very much appreciated! Since currentWs is independent of the given window, nextMatchWithThis History currentWs should produce the exact same effect as nextMatch History (return True), as long as there currently is a focused window. The answer probably a bit more interesting to you is: can what you want to do be done? Of course it can ;) but not out of the box it seems. What you need is a query that returns the workspace a given window is on. As far as I can tell, there is is no such query provided in ManageHelpers, and it is certainly not provided as part of GroupNavigation. Cheers, Norbert
