Hi, i am using scratchpad as drop-down terminal together with screen. The scratchpad window is configured to take 35% of the window height. How can i increase and decrease the scratchpad height without using the mouse? Kind regards Chris

Wallpaper Appearing Briefly on Client Creation/Destruction in Tiled Layouts

Hi, I noticed that my wallpaper (or the root window if there is none) is appearing briefly (i.e. flashing) during client creation / destruction in tiled layouts. This jerky effect is not happening in Fullscreen layout. Is there a workaround to this? Regards,

Help with Actions.Search

These are my two attempts at getting Actions.Search to work: http://sprunge.us/TYfX http://sprunge.us/MXGH The first paste is with just Haskell code, and the second is with what looks like syntactic sugar via the EZConfig module. I'm new I'm new to Haskell and Xmonad, and I'm unsure where to put the searchEngineMap method (constructor function?) lines in the first paste. I'm unsure where to put the searchList type declaration and list in the second. I'm lost. Help is appreciated. -- Desai

xmonad for the Haskell unwashed?

Hi; I'm contemplating a tiling WM, and am drawn to xmonad because its customisation language is its implementation language; I'm long accustomed to this in e.g. EMACS, so I feel it'd be a good fit. But a friend, who's otherwise an outspoken Haskell advocate, put xmonad down in favor of awesome for reasons I'll summarize as 'dependency hell'. I'm interested in the perspective of the xmonad clan on this: If I pick up xmonad simply because I want a hackable WM, how much Haskell janitorial work will I be taking on? Is there a straightfoward and broadly accepted base of package repositories? Are the participants in the module ecosystem pretty careful not to break stuff? Do current versions of various xmonad packages all depend on the current versions of their dependencies? - Allen S. Rout

so, as the title suggests, i'm think ing of switching to xmonad for my wm... my Q is: how much haskell do i need to know to use it effectively? at the moment i am pre-alpha grasshopper status in my haskell coding skills, (i know haskell exists and is high on my list of languages to learn) though i don't want to have to become a haskell guru in order to be able to use xmonad. so really, what's the learning curve like to start using xmonad? hex -- my blog is cooler than yours: serialhex.github.com The wise man said: "Never argue with an idiot. These two channels are limited in size (and this is a practical concerned for me). Moreover using arguments pollutes the process listing and also leak some information. I would suggest reading both pieces of state from a file descriptor instead.

Hi, It seems XMonad.Hooks.DynamicLog doesn't deal with UTF-8 by default: unicode characters appear as blocks in the title area of my dzen2 status. I'm using the 'statusBar' function. Any idea? Regards, -- Bastien

xmonad as a stand-alone?

Dear all, I am rather new to "manually" setting up a desktop environment, so please bear with me. I would like to be able to boot my system straight into xmonad, without having to have any particular desktop environment installed. Currently, I run LXDE and am able to choose xmonad as my wm, but LXDE is of course still present, and I would like to be rid of it. My goal is a "clean system" based only around xmonad and any other packages I need to get it running. How could I accomplish this? What config files would I have to fiddle with to get it running, and what other packages would I need apart from xmonad? Thanks in advance to everyone! Best, Chris
