c2hs.exe "does not exist" on windows

I see in the list archives that someone posted this problem a few weeks ago, but there wasn't a response. So, let me confirm I'm having it too. I installed the haskell platform on windows and then used cabal to install c2hs. It put a binary called "c2hs.exe" in "C:\Program Files\Haskell\bin", which appears to be on my path. However, when I go to build some software I've written that uses c2hs, cabal gives me this error: c2hs.exe: does not exist My package builds fine in linux. The computer I'm at now is running windows xp, service pack 2. I can try it out on a windows 7 computer tomorrow if that would be helpful. This is my first attempt to build Haskell software on windows, so it's conceivable I'm doing something silly. Thanks in advance for your help. --Chris Casinghino

On the disappearance of CLDouble

Manuel, other interested c2hs people, GHC 6.12 removes the CLDouble type from the FFI libs. Of course this means c2hs currently does not compile. The question is what level we should handle this at. Do we also stop recognising and translating long double in C code? Perhaps we should recognise it but fail with an error message to the effect that there is no corresponding Haskell type. Suggestions welcome. Duncan

CHS lexer goes into infinite loop on chars > 255

Found another bug that surfaces when we compile c2hs with ghc-6.12. By default text files are now read in the locale encoding rather than just ASCII. This means we can (and do) get characters over 255. The behaviour is that c2hs goes into an infinite loop and consumes all the memory on your machine (in particular this happens with some files in gtk2hs). Unfortunately the 255 assumption is pretty strongly wired into the c2hs lexer. From Lexer.hs: -- * Unicode posses a problem as the character domain becomes too big -- for using arrays to represent transition tables and even sparse -- structures will posse a significant overhead when character ranges -- are naively represented. So, it might be time for finite maps again. The short term solution is to set the text mode to be ASCII. In the longer term we might want to replace the .chs lexer and parser, like we did already for the C parser. Duncan

c2hs problem on windows

I'm using the Haskell Platform 2009.2.0.2 on XP and just installed c2hs with "cabal install c2hs". It seemed to install fine and didn't give any errors. It installed c2hs.exe in "C:\Program Files\Haskell\bin" And c2hs.hs in "C:\Program Files\Haskell\c2hs-0.16.0" Im trying to install portaudio which has a dependency on c2hs and I get the error: "cabal: The program c2hs is required but it could not be found". So as a guess I added the above 2 directories to the system path. Now when I compile I get the error "c2hs.exe: does not exist". Did I improperly setup c2hs on my machine? I'd appreciate any help. Thank you!
