patch applied (cabal-install): Separate the construction of the exclusion list from its use
by Duncan Coutts 06 Oct '08

06 Oct '08

Sat Oct 4 16:44:21 PDT 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Separate the construction of the exclusion list from its use Previously directly inserted packages into the excluded package list. Now we generate a list of them and then add them. We want the list of newly excluded packages separately because it is interesting information to report to the user when -v is on. patch applied (cabal-install): Generalise the logging of selected and discarded packages
by Duncan Coutts 06 Oct '08

06 Oct '08

Sat Oct 4 16:25:55 PDT 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Generalise the logging of selected and discarded packages Allow for selecting several packages in one go. Currently when we select a package we only list the over versions of the same package that that excludes, and not the other packages we exclude by applying the dependency constraints of the selected package. In future we would like to do that so we now report the package name of discards not just the version. Though we do group by the package name to avoid too much repition. [Hackage] #323: Add url field for package bug reports
by Hackage 05 Oct '08

05 Oct '08

#323: Add url field for package bug reports ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Reporter: duncan | Owner: Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Component: Cabal library | Version: 1.2.3.0 Severity: normal | Keywords: Difficulty: normal | Ghcversion: 6.8.2 Platform: | ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- We would like package authors to be able to specify a url where they would like bug reports to be directed. This could be a `mailto:` url or an online `http:` bug tracker. We should actually parse the field as a url and make sure it's one of the two. This might be a requirement for packages in the Haskell Platform. The hackage web page would have the link and direct users with bug reports. If we can agree then we should get this into Cabal-1.6. -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/323> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

[Hackage] #366: configure prints scary warning with multiple versions of a package
by Hackage 03 Oct '08

03 Oct '08

#366: configure prints scary warning with multiple versions of a package ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Reporter: bos | Owner: Type: defect | Status: new Priority: normal | Milestone: Component: Cabal library | Version: 1.2.3.0 Severity: normal | Keywords: Difficulty: normal | Ghcversion: 6.8.2 Platform: | ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- I'm trying to build HTTP-3001.0.4 with GHC 6.10 beta. It doesn't build out of the box due to the change in exceptions in base 4, so I changed its dependencies to base >= 3 && < 4. This causes a new message that at first looks like an error message: Warning: This package indirectly depends on multiple versions of the same package. This is highly likely to cause a compile failure. package HTTP-3001.0.4 requires base-3.0.3.0 package syb-0.1.0.0 requires base-4.0.0.0 package parsec-2.1.0.1 requires base-4.0.0.0 package network-2.2.0.0 requires base-4.0.0.0 package base-3.0.3.0 requires base-4.0.0.0 package array-0.2.0.0 requires base-4.0.0.0 It's hard to tell whether this message indicates a real problem. I suppose that it could, since e.g. exceptions have changed between base 3 and base 4. -- Ticket URL: <http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/hackage/ticket/366> Hackage <http://haskell.org/cabal/> Hackage: Cabal and related projects

patch applied (cabal): Relax dependencyInconsistencies to allow the base-3, 4 thing
by Duncan Coutts 02 Oct '08

02 Oct '08

Thu Oct 2 00:41:42 PDT 2008 Duncan Coutts <duncan(a)haskell.org> * Relax dependencyInconsistencies to allow the base-3,4 thing Previously we said a package graph was inconsistent if two dependencies on the same package name specified different versions. Now we say that two such dependencies on different versions are ok if there is a direct dependency between those two package versions. So if your package graph ends up with both base 3 and base 4 in it, then that's ok because base 3 directly depends on base 4, so we declare it not to be an inconsistency. This removes the scary warnings at configure time (fixing ticket #366) and also adjusts the invariant and assertion of the InstallPlan ADT in cabal-install.
