We are happy to announce the new release of Feldspar and its compiler! http://feldspar.sourceforge.net/ Feldspar is an embedded domain-specific language for digital signal processing. It is developed as a joint project with Ericsson, ELTE university and Chalmers university. This is an intermediate release to make some of our ongoing work available. The most user-visible change from the previous version is that the vector types have got much simpler, leading to much simpler programs. There have also been some substantial changes under the hood: Most notably, the compiler has a completely new structure which allows defining various optimizations as plugins. The examples available are still very limited. We hope to make a new release quite soon with a reworked tutorial and many more examples. / Emil

ANNOUNCE: Bravo-0.1.0

Hello, I'm pleased to announce the first release of Bravo, a static text template generation library, on Hackage: http://hackage.haskell.org/package/Bravo. Bravo is a text template library that provides parsing and generation of templates at compile time. Templates can be read from strings or files and for each a new record data type is created, allowing convenient access to all template variables in a type-safe manner. Since all templates are processed at compile time, no extra file access or error handling at runtime is necessary. Bravo is inspired by the PHP template engine Smarty and the Haskell template library chunks. Compared to chunks, Bravo provides additional features like conditional template evaluation, embedding of Haskell expressions and customized data type generation. I'm going to add further information to the HaskellWiki page (http://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/Bravo) later. Bravo is still highly experimental and not well-tested, so bug reports and additional feedback are very welcome. I'd also like to hear if you feel the package dependencies are to restrictive. We are pleased to announce the release of Harpy 0.4.2, a library for runtime code generation for x86 machine code. Harpy is available from Hackage: http://hackage.haskell.org/package/harpy Following changes are new in this release: - The disassembler is now in a separate package, and is re-exported for compatibility by Harpy. This allows us to give the more liberal BSD license to the disassembler. See http://hackage.haskell.org/package/disassembler - The "mov", "jcc" (jump on condition code), and "cmp" instructions support "Ptr a" as operands. - Henning Thielemann provided some further floating point and SSE instructions. - The loop instruction supports labels now. ANN: gloss-1.0.0.2: Painless 2D vector graphics, animations and simulations.

Gloss hides the pain of drawing simple vector graphics behind a nice data type and a few display functions. Gloss uses OpenGL and GLUT under the hood, but you won't have to worry about any of that. Get something cool on the screen in under 10 minutes. A simple animated example is: import Graphics.Gloss main = animateInWindow "My Window" (200, 200) (10, 10) white $ \time -> Rotate (time * 100) $ Color red $ Line [(0, 0), (100, 100)] "animateInWindow" first takes the name, size, position and background color of the window. The final argument is a function from the time (in seconds) from when the program started, to a picture. Once the window is open you can pan around, zoom and rotate the animation using the mouse.
