Greetings, I've been trying to use OpenGL, but I had some problems. The situation is the following one: I installed OpenGl; I installed hugs (nov2003-2) and the GHC (6.3) in a fedora linux for the http://www.haskell.org/fedora site; I installed Greencard also met in http://www.haskell.org/fedora; I've been trying to running Planet.hs http://www.haskell.org/HOpenGL/examples/Planet.hs, but the libraries GL and GLUI not found. [cc-ed to hopengl list, probably more suited for follow-ups?] Hi Tim, not sure whether this helps, but I just compiled and ran the redbook examples here (win98se, ghc6.4), and all but 2 looked well-behaved. As for parameters, "fgrep -w args *hs" shows that the only programs that admit to inspecting their parameters have a sensible default. More interesting are the interactions, as far as they go beyond <esc> for exit - check the keyboard functions in the sources to get an idea. Btw, you probably shouldn't redirect the (error-)output to /dev/null if you want to know what goes wrong;-) On my ancient configuration, several examples report unknown OpenGL calls or missing extensions. In fact all but one of those programs which "fail" on my system (9, not the same as in your list, but for MVArray and Quadric) give me such explanations (the one exception was Quadric, with which I couldn't see anything wrong on the screen, and which does in fact give me an "ok" when run again on its own..). [Sven:] Two of the examples crashed on me:-( Tess.hs & TessWind.hs. As if that wasn't bad enough, I had to remove them from the test loop because they don't leave my opengl system in a good state: no obvious havoc outside the examples, but if I ran the test loop a second time, many examples only showed a black screen, or missing features. Never mind whether or not they should work, but what about the crash? Is that just a case of bad programming, or something that the library should catch, or a safety hole, or something wrong with my setup? -- ?? generating a 2d maze in HOpenGL/Postscript

Not sure how useful this is, but I often wondered what everyone else is doing with HOpenGL, and one can never have enough examples. This one is translated from someone else's OCaml program (see comments for original c.l.f thread). Tranlation was mostly straightforward. One hitch was the use of End/Begin style for LineStrip in the OCaml version - we have renderPrimitive instead, which keeps us from making errors in Begin/End bracketing. But what about programs that rely on fiddling with the bracketing (not that that is recommended)? Here I got round the issue by using edgeFlag, but what about a general solution? I saw primitiveRestart in GL.BeginEnd, but there's no explanation of what it does, and it isn't supported on my platform anyway. Enjoy, Claus

Hitdetection

Hi, A picture of my quadgame is atached. I need a kind of hitdetection for knowing where the player want's to set the next stone. I copied for testing the code of Sven but it doesn't work in the right way... As shown in the PickDepth or PickSquare example I added some hitrecord names to each grey square on the picture. When you click on the window, the same code like in the examples is executed. Except of the ortho2D call after the pickMatrix... I do not exactly know, what I have to fill there.. I tried it in the following way: justifyCamera :: GamePackage -> IO () justifyCamera gp = do let C {cp = camPers, cla=camLook} = gpGetCam gp (a,r,n,f) = camPers (e,c,u) = camLook -- matrixMode $= Projection -- loadIdentity GLU.perspective a r n f -- matrixMode $= Modelview 0 -- loadIdentity GLU.lookAt e c u I just commented out the change of the matrixMode. But that isn't right.. I have hits anywhere in the space but not on the planes :( Any good ideas? Or is there a good tutorial except of the gluSpec? Most of the mailing lists on haskell.org are set to hold all postings from non-members for moderation, which catches 99.99% of the spam.
