Hello, Haskell.org is going to partecipate as mentoring organization to the Google Summer of Code programme of this year. We have formed a group of volunteers taking care of the administrative work as well as the mentoring part. The group is listed here: <http://haskell.org/haskellwiki/Summer_of_Code:_People>. We are now looking for projects, and mentors. We've reached number 24 but we are happily going to add more, Haskell Open Source paid work for the summer! If you run some active open source program you might want to mentor some student who will be working on your code, for example. Either just add your ideas here: <http://haskell.org/haskellwiki/Summer_of_Code:_Project_suggestions> (as well as your informations on the People's page) or contact me for details. I am also looking for students, I'd like to ear from them if they are going to partecipate with Haskell projects, last year I was alone! Hi, I would like to know how to multiply the current matrix with, for example, the following translation matrix in RowMajor order: [1,0,0,x ,0,1,0,y ,0,0,1,z ,0,0,0,1] I know I must use: multMatrix :: (Matrix m, MatrixComponent c) => m c -> IO () but I don't know how to call it. standard opengl z axis reversed in hopengl ?

hi, I thought the z axis increases towards the user. but translate (Vector3 (-0.2) (-0.2) (-0.2::GLfloat)) translates a bit towards the left, down and *the user*. Is it the standard opengl behavior ? thank you, vo minh thu

GLUT in GHC 6.4.1

Hello, I have GHC 6.4.1 on Debian Linux x86_64, and I have just discovered that the GLUT package is not included. Is there an easy way for me to get it? Thanks, /g

Hi, Hope you forgive the intrusion of an OCaml user. :) I'm interested in how HOpenGL is built. Ocaml has two bindings to OpenGL and while usuable, they are not kept up to date (mostly 1.0 with a few 1.1 functions thrown in), so I'm exploring two options; extending one of the current bindings manually or building a new one, hopefully automating part of the process (or possibly a hybrid approach). The web pages look a little out of date, but from what I can gather this is what I think happens. First, the spec files are parsed and the types and functions are noted. Next a flat C and Haskell file are generated from the info from the previous stage. The C file interfaces with haskell runtime. Conversion from Haskell types to the numerical values of enumerations is done in the Haskell layer. The functions in the haskell file are then called by a set of hierachical modules which have been manually created and turn the flat GL namespace into a hierachical one. Is that about right or am I missing something/way off on a tangent? Obviously there are differences between OCaml and Haskell and the FFIs, but I'd appreciate any advice. The most difficult part looks like mapping between C types and Ocaml types due to the stronger typing. Thanks for your time and sorry for the intrusion, Chris

I think the most comprehensive overview is here (of course for C only): http://www.opengl.org/resources/features/fontsurvey/ If you are looking for high performance font rendering with current graphic cards, by all means use texturing. This is what all mainstream cards that I know of are optimized for, and it has a few nice benefits like scalability and anti-aliasing. Using other techniques you easily end up waiting for the loooong graphic pipelines to be flushed before you can "simply" do some manipulations of the frame buffer. It can be very surprising if a simple frames-per-second counter displayed in some corner of the screen drastically reduces the FPS of your home-grown Quake-clone. Of course this has *never* happened to me... ;-) Cheers, S.

FW: ghc-6.4.1 on solaris

[ forwarding to hopengl(a)haskell.org ] Christian is having trouble compiling the HOpenGL in GHC 6.4 on Solaris. The symptom is a gcc crash when compiling Graphics.Rendering.OpenGL.GL.VertexSpec (see attached log). It fails with gcc 4.0.0 and 3.3.6. Is there anything in that file that might cause gcc trouble, such as foreign calls to inline C functions maybe? Any guesses at a workaround? HopenGL on Windows XP

Hi, None of the examples of OpenGL at http://cvs.haskell.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/~checkout~/fptools/libraries/GLUT… do work . E.g. for Planet.hs I get during compilation with ghc-6.2.2 Planet.hs: 30: parse error on input `-&' Any help more than welcome. I use Windows XP and ghc-6.2.2
