Hi there, hugs and ghc understand much the same, but a few (often subtle) differences remain. Since I'd be interested in developing code for both, I'm looking for a way to directly take care of these differences in my code. Ghc offers a commandline option '-cpp' which will allow for '#ifdef' and other preprocessor directives. When testing it, it worked ok. Hugs seems to offer a similar feature '-F<cmd>'. When testing it, however, it did not work. 'cpp' seems to be called, but it seems to leave characters in the code that can't be dealt w/ by hugs. Hugs has a Bug by My WindowsME

I've installed Hugs-Interpreter at my WIndowsME. And then it did not functioned. I have becomed a messege: "FATAL ERROR:unable to load Prelude".. And another messege, which was in the hugs windows: "ERROR c:\Programme\hugs98\lib\Prelude.hs Garbage Collection fails to reclaim sufficient space".. I hope you can help me... Hugs for Macintosh 2001/10/12

I made an update to the version that I and Pablo Azero used to develop; it is at http://www.matematik.su.se/~haberg/Computer/Hugs98Feb2001MacBin20011012.sit The sources I used to compile these, using Metrowerks CodeWarrior Pro 5 are at http://www.matematik.su.se/~haberg/Computer/Hugs98Feb2001MacSrc20011012.sit If somebody is willing to put this stuff up elsewhere, please let me know. As hinted, I do not develop this one anymore, and I do not think that Pablo has time for that either. This is essentially an version I made the last fall (2000), updated to use the Hugs Feb 2001 kernel. It was just an experiment, so try it out as is (but I do not think there should be any problems). I think people would be better off to get hold of MacOS X, and use a version using its BSD shells. If somebody is interested in making a GUI or a version capable of handling AppleEvent's, that should be under MacOS X I think, and not building on the current version. The (main) differences from the previous versions are: - It uses the Feb 2001 Hugs kernel. - One can now drop files onto Hugs when it is up and running. -- I removed the DropUNIX package and implemented AppleEvent's directly instead. - Both MacOS '\r' and UNIX '\n' are accepted as newlines when reading files. (The DOS newline, which uses both control characters, will be read as two newlines.) - There is an experimental package for sending and receiving AppleEvent's. If you do not use this feature, it should not be a bother to you. Hans Aberg

Font size in Hugs for Macintosh

Hi, I just wonder whether it's possible to change the size of the font in the interpreter window of Hugs on the Mac. Does anybody have an idea how to do this? Or is the only possibility to switch between certain screen resolutions? Thanks, Matthias

hugs98 feb2001 problem with readline

hi. I'm trying to compile the hugs98 feb2001 release on my Suse linux 7.2. Runing the command ./configure --with-readline produces the following errormessage: checking for readline in -lreadline... no checking for readline in -leditline... no configure: warning: readline and editline packages not available (ignoring --with-readline) I have two libreadline.so files on my system, which IMO should support the readline option(?): /lib/libreadline.so.4 /lib/libreadline.so.4.2 So what am I doing wrong? Quoted filenames in error msgs

Is there a way to force Hugs (Feb 2001 or CVS) to quote filenames in errors messages, e.g., I want ERROR "/nr/user/bjarte/tmp/foo/A.hs":1 - ... instead of ERROR /nr/user/bjarte/tmp/foo/A.hs:1 - ... The reason I want this is to make Emacs & Haskell mode (version 1.41) happy when parsing error messages -- it expects messages to have quoted filenames. Of course, one could attempt to handle this on the ELisp side, but it gets messy allowing for spaces, quotes or colons in filenames, ... (and regexps drives me nuts after having used parsing combinators :) In the archives of hugs-{bugs|users} there are discussions of a related problem in *invoking* editors from Hugs, but unless I've misunderstood something this does not help here. How to XOR two integers?

Hi, When I have the following program in a file test.hs: ------------------------------------ import Int z = xor (intToInt32 0xf32e) (intToInt32 0xac43) ------------------------------------ The system gives the following error message: ------------------------------------ Reading file "test.hs": Dependency analysis ERROR test.hs:5 - Undefined variable "xor" ------------------------------------ However when I directly input the expression Int> (xor (intToInt32 0xf32e) (intToInt32 0xac43)) I get the answer 24429 Since Int is imported in test.hs, and Int.hs exports Int32, shouldn't xor be visible in test.hs? HUGS on OSX
