darcs patch: Make a String description part of each Layout.
by David Roundy 26 Sep '07

This change also adds a few layouts to the defaults, so that we'll be less likely to be unable to read the old state, if users remove a layout from their Config.hs. We really need some distinction between the defaultLayouts and the set of layouts that we know how to read. Hi this is a small update to the new tabbed. It fixes a small issue and cleans up the code a bit. Andrea Mon Sep 24 21:34:19 CEST 2007 Andrea Rossato <andrea.rossato(a)unibz.it> * Added a NewTabbed module with a new tabbed layout to test Tue Sep 25 15:37:49 CEST 2007 Andrea Rossato <andrea.rossato(a)unibz.it> * NewTabbed: fixed a bug and some code formatting - Since now Operations.windows doesn't call sendMessage UnDoLayout anymore, doLayout must take care of destroying all tabs when only one window ( or none) is left on the workspace. - Some code formatting.

darcs patch: Added LayoutMessages (and 1 more)
by Andrea Rossato 25 Sep '07

Hi, this is a follow up of the previous discussion with David: a Hide/ReleaseResources message system. Tomorrow I'll try to take care of the LayoutSelection instance, otherwise I'll drop David a line...;-) The new tabbed follows. Andrea Mon Sep 24 21:35:13 CEST 2007 Andrea Rossato <andrea.rossato(a)unibz.it> * Added LayoutMessages This patch adds some more messages to manage layout: Hide is sent to layouts in that are not visible anymore. ReleaseReasourses is sent before a restart. Mon Sep 24 21:39:15 CEST 2007 Andrea Rossato <andrea.rossato(a)unibz.it> * broadcast a ReleaseResources before restarting

darcs patch: LayoutModifier updated to use LayoutMess... (and 1 more)
by Andrea Rossato 25 Sep '07

Hi, this is the proposed new tabbed layout. It is a substantial rewrite of the old tabbed layout, without using simplestacking and decoration. The basic idea is to have a state to cache the font structure and the created windows ids, in order to minimize resource creation/destruction. The style is far from David style, and I did not even try to imitate it. The code is not modular, not simple; it is, well... my code. I'm really open to suggestion on how to improve it, though. The file has a new name, since I would like to port also the old tabbed to the new class infrastructure. I will then try to optimize that version too and see which one works better. This is the plan at least. Please let me know. To use: import XMonadContrib.NewTabbed and in the default layout list add: ("tabbed", SomeLayout $ Tabbed Nothing defaultTConf) Andrea Mon Sep 24 21:33:45 CEST 2007 Andrea Rossato <andrea.rossato(a)unibz.it> * LayoutModifier updated to use LayoutMessages Mon Sep 24 21:34:19 CEST 2007 Andrea Rossato <andrea.rossato(a)unibz.it> * Added a NewTabbed module with a new tabbed layout to test

Issue 47: Allow selection of the floating layout in Config.hs http://code.google.com/p/xmonad/issues/detail?id=47 New issue report by SpencerJanssen: The layout algorithm for floating windows is hard-coded into Operations.windows. darcs patch: Added LayoutMessages
by Andrea Rossato 25 Sep '07

25 Sep '07

Hi, as we said yestarday this is my proposal for a more sophisticated layour message system. Basically: UnDoLayouts is used for refreshes, LayoutSwitch wfor notifying a layout change, and NonVisible when a layout is a workspace not visible anymore. This way we can have a non flickering tabbed, with proper handling of fontStruct and windows, but without having to recreate/destroy these resources at every refresh. There is a new function sendMessage', for sending messages to a list of layouts. This is just a proposal. If you don't like the code style please let me know (better if with directions): I'm always happy to improve! The accompanying Tabbed code is finished: I just need to clean it up a bit. Andrea Mon Sep 24 16:09:06 CEST 2007 Andrea Rossato <andrea.rossato(a)unibz.it> * Added LayoutMessages This patch adds some more messages to manage layout: LayoutSwitch and NonVisible. UnDoLayout is keep for Stack updates. NonVisible is sent to layouts in workspaces that are not visible anymore after a refresh.
