darcs patch: update LayoutHelpers to work with new La... (and 1 more)
by David Roundy 24 Sep '07

24 Sep '07

This doesn't really work nicely, but at least it compiles, and gives a hint of how I think this might work. Note the Stupid data type that is currently needed (but not yet exported) to avoid undecideable instances. David Sun Sep 23 07:49:29 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * update LayoutHelpers to work with new Layout class. Sun Sep 23 08:27:27 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * Update NoBorders and LayoutHelpers. This is very experimental hokey attempt.

darcs patch: make spawn redirect std* to /dev/null
by l.mai＠web.de 24 Sep '07

24 Sep '07

Sun Sep 23 15:13:40 CEST 2007 l.mai(a)web.de * make spawn redirect std* to /dev/null spawn'd programs inherit their std{in,out, err} from xmonad. This can interfere with logHook logging because some programs dump debugging output to stdout or stderr. This patch therefore redirects all standard streams to /dev/null when a new program is started.

darcs patch: rename LayoutHelpers to LayoutModifier.
by David Roundy 24 Sep '07

24 Sep '07

I think this is a better name, particularly given its changes. David Sun Sep 23 17:59:56 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * rename LayoutHelpers to LayoutModifier.

darcs patch: update LayoutHelpers to work with new La... (and 2 more)
by David Roundy 24 Sep '07

24 Sep '07

Hi all, This is (I think) a working version of the new LayoutHelpers, along with a NoBorders that makes use of it. I actually really like this new LayoutModifier class, and expect it to be pretty easy to use! :) David Sun Sep 23 07:49:29 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * update LayoutHelpers to work with new Layout class. Sun Sep 23 08:17:23 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * add a hook to LayoutHelpers. Sun Sep 23 15:26:40 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * Update NoBorders and LayoutHelpers.

darcs patch: make Circle work with Layout class. (and 1 more)
by David Roundy 24 Sep '07

24 Sep '07

This just saves one line of code... but also demonstrates the benefit of not requiring a modifyLayout to be defined, if the layout doesn't want to listen to messages. :) David Fri Sep 21 17:55:25 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * make Circle work with Layout class. Sun Sep 23 07:52:57 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * use default modifyLayout in Circle.

darcs patch: make layouts preserved over restart (and 1 more)
by David Roundy 24 Sep '07

24 Sep '07

The new change here is a default modifyLayout. This implements the old idModify from LayoutHelpers, so that it's easy to create layouts that don't need to read messages. And it costs us no extra code in core, since Full falls in this category. :) David Fri Sep 21 16:43:16 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * make layouts preserved over restart Sun Sep 23 07:52:19 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * create default modifyLayout that ignores messages.

Warning: I haven't actually used this helper class yet, so it may actually be useless, or just not work... but since folks seem actively interested in this project, I figure it'll be good to keep you up-to-date. David Sun Sep 23 07:49:29 EDT 2007 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * update LayoutHelpers to work with new Layout class.
