spawn functions are not unicode safe

Hello. There is problem with `spawn' function as well with *spawn family from XMonad.Util.Run. They mangle unicode symbols which are passed to them. This is because they make use of `executeFile' which silently truncate each letter to one byte. Simplest workaround is to use utf8-string package. It would work only on systems with UTF8 locales but now they are majority I hope. > import Codec.Binary.UTF8.String > -- | Unicode safe spawn > spawnU :: MonadIO m => String -> m () > spawnU = spawn . encodeString The same possible for all *spawn functions. Running Arch linux. I've just installed and am trying to configure XMonad. I'm following the step-by-step guide to configuring xmonad from the xmonad web site. Is a sticky Mod key a feasible option?

I have one question, concerning a feature wish. I don't have the Haskell chops to know whether it is feasible, so I thought I'd ask. Would it be possible to have an option to make the Mod key sticky? A sticky Mod key would make typing key combinations a little easier. BTW, I've been using xmonad for almost a couple of years. Until recently it was the only tiling window manager I'd ever used. This weekend I tried out one of the other tiling wm's, just out of curiosity. I won't mention any names, so not to badmouth another project, but wow. Seeing and using one of the alternatives made me better appreciate what an outstanding and superior piece of work xmonad truly is. Thanks to the developers and contributers for creating an indispensable program. David Cabana

I'm not using xrandr to rotate, I'm using: Option "Rotate" "left" in my xorg.conf, as a parameter for my nvidia driver. ManageHelpers: isDialog

Rox [http://rox.sourceforge.net] doesn't use WM_TRANSIENT_FOR for its dialogs, so xmonad treats them as ordinal windows. So I wrote the Query 'isDialog' (which may be useful in other circumstances, too) and added it to XMonad.Hooks.ManageHelpers. After adding 'isDialog --> doCenterFloat' to the manage hook, xmonad shows rox dialogs as floating windows. This is only a poor workaround: When such dialogs are closed, the focus does not go back to the parent window (how should it, xmonad does not know, which window it is). Of course hacking rox would be the better solution. -Johann
