Hi All, I've been using xmonad for a few months now, and I love it. I continuously find better and better ways to set up my desktop. One thing I've been struggling with is fullscreen. I use this mostly for watching movies, but also potentially for showing a presentation. I would like to either have key combination which turns the current workspace to fullscreen or to designate one of my workspaces to be in fullscreen always (or both). I currently have the following key bindings defined: -- toggle the status bar gap , ((modMask .|. shiftMask, xK_b ), sendMessage ToggleStruts) -- Toggle borders , ((controlMask .|. shiftMask, xK_b ), withFocused toggleBorder) The first makes the status bar disappear, and the other kills the window border. Although, this is not a single key stroke, and can't be assign to a workspace, it gave me what I needed. However, I've recently discovered themes, and I've added title-bars to my windows which I love: newTheme :: ThemeInfo newTheme = TI "" "" "" defaultTheme myTheme :: ThemeInfo myTheme = newTheme { themeName = "myTheme" , themeAuthor = "Ones Self" , themeDescription = "My Theme" , theme = defaultTheme { activeColor = "#8a999e" , inactiveColor = "#545d75" --, activeBorderColor = "white" , activeBorderColor = "#8a999e" --, inactiveBorderColor = "grey" , inactiveBorderColor = "#545d75" , activeTextColor = "white" , inactiveTextColor = "grey" , fontName = "-*-lucidatypewriter-bold-*-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" , decoHeight = 12 , decoWidth = 2000 } } This presents a problem to fullscreen mode since the title-bars stay visible. - How can I define a key that will make title-bars disappear? - Can I combine it with my current "make border disappear" key? - Can I designate a workspace to always show windows in fullscreen (meaning, no status bar gap, no window borders, and no window title)? - Can I define a single key that will toggle fullscreen for a given workspace? External screen for presentation

Hi. I have been using XMonad on a workstation for a few months and love it. Yesterday I installed it on a laptop and tried to use OpenOffice presentation view on an external projector. In short the presentation screen ended up in another workspace. I really need to run presentations, and really do not want to go back to Gnome. What sort of config magic is needed? suprised: tiling is never used

Hi all, I've been using XMonad for a long time, about one year by now. But I've just found that I almost never used tiling layout. The windows in my xmonad are always either maximized or floating. Because resizing is sometimes destructive to programs like mc, moc and mutt. I still enjoy XMonad, but just wonder anyone else never use tiling layout either? lars

If You found yourself never used tiled mode, maybe You should try manual tiling window manager, like Stumpwm or Musca or Ion... But I came to XMonad after years of using manual tiling wm and now i enjoy the automatic tiling layout. Especially with LimitWindows modifier... Sometimes I would like to have a possibility to split a screen manually. Maybe there is a layout, that i didn't find in the XMonad collection, with such possibilities? (I tried DragPane, TwoPane, Combo... It's cool, but not exactly what i mean...) PS to Chengqi Song: sorry for accidental sending private message. [PATCH] XMonad: set the default root cursor to XC_left_ptr

I've noticed that the default root cursor isn't changed from X's default. Is there a reason for this, other than just no one noticing because their display manager overrides it? I've noticed this with nodm. The patch below changes xmonad to override the default cursor. Just received the following from someone off-list - so looks like we have a bug report and a proposed fix! Yay! ---------------------------------- Hi rupa, I saw your recent message on the xmonad mailing list archives about problems with the GNOME workspace switcher in Ubuntu. I had just encountered the same issue and was looking for a solution. I've now posted a fix on the bug report at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/400301/ Hopefully it'll be incorporated in an update soon, but in the meantime anyone who's bothered by this can apply the fix and rebuild the gnome-panel package from source yourself if they want. I'm not on the xmonad list and not particularly interested in joining at the moment, so perhaps you could pass a followup note on to the list about this, for the benefit of anyone else coming across this issue.

Latest on this is that it looks like it's a Ubuntu specific problem, as debian is not affected. Nafai, in irc, took a look at the code for ubuntu's diff against gnome-workspace-switcher and found some suspicious looking stuff. It looks like they are special casing compiz, and metacity, and not bothering to deal with other (compliant) window managers. Nafai was going to look into it some more when he had a chance and try to work up a decent bug report for ubuntu devs - me personally - I could see there's something fishy in the code, but not enough to point to where they specifically screwed us.
