Mirroring OneBig layout?

I'm finding OneBig to be a very effective layout for widescreen monitors; but my visual attention point is between two monitors; I'd like to be able to change the position of the big window. Just to top-right would be a start (I failed to understand 'Mirror' already) but potentially also to be able to nominate any corner for the big window (to accommodate the top row of monitors in a 4-screen square configuration) Can someone please give me some examples/pointers on how to achieve this? -jim, who still hasn't grokked Haskell despite loving XMonad ...

fuzzy/partial matching on prompts?

I haven't been able to find anything in the docs on this… All I want is for certain prompts to use fuzzy or partial matching: the XMondad.Topic switchTopic function was what prompted this, but I see plenty of cases (dzen) where it would be very nice. But particularly for switching topic/workspaces: it's a pain having to type out whole names, even when the list has already been narrowed to a single member… There's probably some configuration option I'm missing—does anyone have any pointers? cabal install xmonad-utils fails on Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard (can't find crypt)

Hi, I've had no problem installing, configuring and using xmonad+xmodbar under Debian. No such luck with Mac OSX 10.5.x and 10.6.x. In both cases, after installing the right XCode version and Haskell platform, my attempts to install xmonad-utils fail with imac:~ flengyel$ cabal install xmonad-utilsResolving dependencies... Configuring xmonad-utils-0.1.2... cabal: Missing dependency on a foreign library: * Missing C library: crypt This problem can usually be solved by installing the system package that provides this library (you may need the "-dev" version). If the library is already installed but in a non-standard location then you can use the flags --extra-include-dirs= and --extra-lib-dirs= to specify where it is. cabal: Error: some packages failed to install: xmonad-utils-0.1.2 failed during the configure step. The exception was: ExitFailure 1 The C crypt library is no longer maintained in macports. What does the list suggest? Thanks, FL

xmonad & opera dialogs

Hi, I'm using xmonad 0.9 and have a little problem: The opera dialogs are often missized, e.g. the download dialog (where to save a file) is often over 5000 pixel wide. Or the dialog to enter the master password is often every small, so that you can't see the input box. I don't know if that is a problem that can be fixed. Maybe it's just bad luck that opera doesn't work together with xmonad. But maybe someone else had such a problem and know a fix/workaround. Regards, Felix

I expect two desktops which I can focus separately by mod-e,w to be presented to me on my two displays. Instead I have only one desktop spread over the displays. mod-e,w,q do nothing. I checked the obvious errors see below. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad 0.8.1 on gentoo amd64 Are you using an xmonad.hs? no The desktop spans the minimal bounding box of the two display rectangles, leaving in my case (1200x1024, 1024x768) an unshown area on its right lower side. My X11 log says: (**) NVIDIA(0): Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024,1024x768" .. (**) NVIDIA(0): TwinView enabled (II) NVIDIA(0): Validated modes: (II) NVIDIA(0): "1280x1024,1024x768" (II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 2304 x 1024 My X11 libs are compiled with Xinerama: ghc -e "Graphics.X11.openDisplay [] >>= Graphics.X11.Xinerama.getScreenInfo" True Xinerama.getScreenInfo gets the right rectangles: [Rectangle {rect_x = 0, rect_y = 0, rect_width = 1280, rect_height = 1024},Rectangle {rect_x = 1280, rect_y = 0, rect_width = 1024, rect_height = 768}] I have to admit, my setup always behaved somewhat shaky on different oss and different window managers. The card is bit older, so I have to stick to a legacy driver (173...). It could very well rather be a problem of the nvidia driver than xmonad. In which case I also would be thankful for any hints for digging deeper into the problem with the help of xmonad so to say. johannes

ppVisible with 3 screens

Hi, I was using 2 screens with xmonad and xmobar. The settings ppCurrent = xmobarColor "#CC0000" "" . wrap "[" "]" , ppVisible = xmobarColor "#EE9A00" "" . wrap "[" "]" , ppTitle = shorten 80 , ppSep = "<fc=#AFAF87> | </fc>" , ppHiddenNoWindows = xmobarColor "#AFAF87" "" , ppUrgent = xmobarColor "#EE9A00" "" . wrap "[" "]" worked good for 2 screens: The active workspace is red and the inactive is orange. But now, with 3 screens, there are 2 inactive workspaces and they both are orange. Is there a way to say: inactive on screen 0 = blue inactive on screen 1 = ornage inactive on screen 3 = green or something similar. Thanks for your help! Regards, Felix

More empathy weirdness

With the most recent update to empathy (2.32.0.1) it no longer gets shifted to the correct workspace :-( Here's an excerpt of what I have in my ~/.xmonad/xmonad.hs: myWindowActions = composeAll [ className =? "Firefox" --> doF (W.shift "8:web") , className =? "Thunderbird" --> doF (W.shift "9:mail") ] Before the upgrade of empathy it shifted to the correct workspace without fail. Now not at all. I have checked that the resource hasn't changed either: % xprop | grep WM_CLASS WM_CLASS(STRING) = "empathy", "Empathy" Any idea why this could be? Xterm urgency hint

Hi folks, I seem to remember that some of you xmonad users are also running arch linux, which is my newest distro of choice. Has anyone here run into the problem that xterm ignores the bellIsUrgent flag? No matter what I do, all I hear is a beep, but the urgency hint is not set for the window. Bug? Transparent/composited floating windows fail to redraw/update if resized from full screen with NoBorders

I'm not sure yet whether this bug is related to Core or Contrib (given that it involves NoBorders) or even if it's some other X related issue, so I thought I'd post it here for feedback and to see if anyone can reproduce it... I've searched high and low for other cases but haven't been able to track any down. My apologies if I've overlooked answers/reports like this elsewhere or if this isn't an appropriate venue for this message. Summary: ======== Transparent/composited floating windows fail to redraw/update if resized from full screen with NoBorders. With borders the problem doesn't manifest (e.g. if resized from tiled mode with borders already visible). Details: ======== With compositing on and multiple windows stacked in Full screen mode with XMonad.Layout.NoBorders active to remove the full screen border, resizing the visible window into a floating window results in the window no longer updating/redrawing. The window does still accept input (e.g. terminal commands can be issues if it's a terminal window, for instance). If the window is resized to floating from a normal tiled mode, it retains a border and draws/updates properly. Compositing via xcompmgr -Ethan Schoonover
