When using subkey for keybindings, it grabs any use of the subkey. 2. I tried using xdotool to send the key, but xmnad grabs this as well. What is the expected output? Send keypress to focused window. What do you see instead? xmonad grabs the simulated keypress. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? 0.9 Fedora 12 x86_64 and i686 Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". No output from xmonad --recompile. Run xmonad by full path, not "xmonad", with xmonad not in $PATH 2. Attempt to restart xmonad; the exec will fail. What is the expected output? What do you see instead? By default, I would expect xmonad to use the paths baked in by Cabal, but perhaps there is reason not to. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? 0.9.1, built from darcs. Debian sid. I'm attaching a first pass of a patch for this, but something seems wrong with it; why do I need to specify Paths_xmonad in the .cabal file? Attachments: cabalpaths.diff 2.8 KB

updating.... in xmobar

Hey all, I just started trying xmonad out, and I really ilke it. I've used ratpoison in the past but eventually gave it up. xmonad seems to work better for me so far. I realize this is a xmobar question, but I am guessing there are people on this list that uses xmobar also. I have a .xmobarrc which looks like follows: <snip> Config { font = "-*-Fixed-Bold-R-Normal-*-13-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" , bgColor = "black" , fgColor = "grey" , position = TopW L 100 , lowerOnStart = True , commands = [ Run Cpu ["-L","3","-H","50","--normal","green","--high","red"] 10 , Run Memory ["-t","Mem: <usedratio>%"] 10 , Run Swap [] 10 , Run Date "%a %b %_d %l:%M" "date" 10 , Run Com "uname" ["-s","-r"] "blaj" 36000 , Run StdinReader ] , sepChar = "%" , alignSep = "}{" , template = "%StdinReader% }{ %blaj% %cpu% | %memory% * %swap% <fc=#ee9a00>%date%</fc>" } </snip> ...and in ~/.xmonad/xmonad.hs I have: <snip> ... xmproc <- spawnPipe "/usr/bin/xmobar /home/jcx/.xmobarrc" ... </snip> All I get is "updating..." where %StdinReader% is placed. In XMC's repo, I only saw rearrangements, tweaks, some revamps by me of XMonad.Util.Run not really worth mentioning, and 2 new modules added. As someone new to Xmonad and Haskell, the "sufficient" workaround is not simple at all: - delete all of the default keybindings - add a single keybinding for your desired prefix key that activates a submap - add all the desired keybindings to your submap I wouldn't know how to start with implementing that. I even tried the "extra user-friendly" BlueTile alternative. In particular, decorated layouts store some X11 handles in them and allocate/deallocate it as appropriate. If any modification to their state is ignored, they may try to deallocate already deallocated memory, which results in a crash somewhere inside Xlib. This patch makes Transformers reversible so that nothing is ever ignored. As a side effect, layout transformers now do receive messages and messages for the base layout do not need the undo/reapply cycle -- we just pass messages to the current transformed layout and unapply the transformer when needed.
