UTF8 output from xmonad mangled

Hi folks, I'm using xmobar as my status bar and have problems to get UTF8 characters to display correctly. I did the following tests: 1. Start xmobar, reading input from stdin. Type in some unicode characters. Xmobar displays them fine. 2. Add some unicode characters to my loghook in xmonad. Things come out garbled. 3. Instead of piping to xmobar, make xmonad write to a file. The file contents are also garbled. To be more precise, they are exactly what xmobar shows me in the second test. So this seems like the problem is on xmonad's end, not xmobar's. I'm running the latest darcs version of xmonad. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks, Norbert

[patch] Fix URI escaping in X.A.Search

Hello This patch fix URI escaping in X.A.Search. Non ASCII characters were not escaped. This patch modify escape function so it encodes as UTF8 and escapes all non-ASCII characters. This is also a workaroud for bug in System.Process which doesn't properly encode strings and just truncate Chars to 1 byte. -- Khudyakov Alexey

xmonad and conky

Hello all, I hope this is the right list, as I am not able to find much on my issue. I am running XMonad and I love it! I am using dzen2 for my status bar and it works just fine. I also have another dzen2 bar setup that runs conky and it does not update. My clock is static at whenever my X session starts and my cpu, memory, and disk stats do not change. I'm not sure if this is a problem with XMonad, dzen2, or conky, but I've run out of places to look. Here is the relevant portion of my xmonad.hs file. Upgrading repo formats

While waiting on a slow connection today to darcs get XMC, I had time to ponder. The patches are (or would be) in my global cache, so it could go much faster. Why doesn't it? Because xmonad-contrib and xmonad-core are both still using darcs-1 fomatted repositories. Is there any particular reason to not upgrade? Even Debian Stable has Darcs 2.x (http://packages.debian.org/lenny/darcs) so it's not as if there are many people who would be unable to do a darcs get. -- gwern

Change the mouse pointer to a pretty one, using Gnome's config utilities. 2. Use 'main = xmonad gnomeConfig' in your xmonad.hs 3. Make sure to log out and then back in again. What is the expected output? What do you see instead? I expected the left pointer to be the pretty one I configured it to be in Gnome. Instead it's set to the default, ugly X11 pointer. (All other pointer types are unaffected.) Currently it's left to each user to fix this, by e.g. using main = xmonad $ gnomeConfig { startupHook = gnomeRegister >> ewmhDesktopsStartup } That seems rather silly to me. Surely the default config for use on Gnome should leave the pointer configuration to match what the user configured in Gnome. What version of the product are you using? How to give focus to gnome panel?

Hi helpers, I run Xmonad with Gnome on Archlinux. The usual shortcut Ctrl-Alt-Tab that gives focus to the Gnome panel does not work (I suppose it is a Metacity shortcut). Does anyone know how to configure Xmonad to do that ? In xmonad-contrib in Desktop.Gnome there is not function to give focus to the panel, what could I use instead ? Thanks, Eric
