Start XMonad 2. Start cairo-compmgr or xcompmgr What is the expected output? What do you see instead? Instead of their normal positioning, windows are shifted to the top left a bit so that the borders on the top and left aren’t visible anymore. As soon as I kill the compositing manager, the windows are repositioned correctly. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? XMonad 0.9.1; Arch Linux x86_64. Tried with cairo-compmgr-git and xcompmgr. Are you using an xmonad.hs? Please attach it and the output of "xmonad --recompile". The only relevant part might be borderWidth = 2. I don’t use FadeInactive or things like that. No messages on xmonad --recompile. Please provide any additional information below.

For some reason when the dialog appears on different screen than the app was last show it is (at least sometimes) munged as well. Note that the dialog has an application specified size at the start so I don't see any reason to resize it later.

I tried it out but it didn't fix the issue I encountered. Releasing 1.0

I spent the other reading a PhD thesis about time-based releases: http://www.cyrius.com/publications/michlmayr-phd.html All the projects involved seemed to prefer time-based releases, and there was much criticism of releases simply being endlessly dragged out and end-users being hurt by the delays and unclear forecasts. Let us say I was more than a little reminded of Xmonad and #xmonad. The last major release of xmonad was back when George W. Bush was president. There are no outstanding patches in http://darcswatch.nomeata.de/repo_http:__code.haskell.org_XMonadContrib.html or http://darcswatch.nomeata.de/repo_http:__code.haskell.org_xmonad.html Since then, awesome has made something like 10 releases; even dwm has made releases. There are plenty of bugs left in Xmonad, but I doubt many will be squashed given another few months or years. Let's just make the 1.0 release already. -- gwern http://www.gwern.net

xmonad for the Haskell unwashed?

Hi; I'm contemplating a tiling WM, and am drawn to xmonad because its customisation language is its implementation language; I'm long accustomed to this in e.g. EMACS, so I feel it'd be a good fit. But a friend, who's otherwise an outspoken Haskell advocate, put xmonad down in favor of awesome for reasons I'll summarize as 'dependency hell'. I'm interested in the perspective of the xmonad clan on this: If I pick up xmonad simply because I want a hackable WM, how much Haskell janitorial work will I be taking on? Is there a straightfoward and broadly accepted base of package repositories? Are the participants in the module ecosystem pretty careful not to break stuff? Do current versions of various xmonad packages all depend on the current versions of their dependencies? - Allen S. Rout

so, as the title suggests, i'm think ing of switching to xmonad for my wm... my Q is: how much haskell do i need to know to use it effectively? at the moment i am pre-alpha grasshopper status in my haskell coding skills, (i know haskell exists and is high on my list of languages to learn) though i don't want to have to become a haskell guru in order to be able to use xmonad. so really, what's the learning curve like to start using xmonad? hex -- my blog is cooler than yours: serialhex.github.com The wise man said: "Never argue with an idiot.
