Emacs Speedbar Focus Issues

Hi all, I am having an issue with the Emacs speedbar switching focus to the main Emacs window but XMonad does not follow. I am running XMonad 0.9.1 and Emacs version 23.2.2. To reproduce: 1) Switch to the speedbar window 2) Select a buffer and hit "Enter" Keyboard focus now switches to the main editing window, but the red Xmonad border stays with the Speedbar. thanks ! -deech

I'm not sure who is at fault here, but skype can be really fixed by us, so I'd like to see if possible a workaround in xmonad. xmonad-x86_64-linux zero length ...

Recently (since I replaced two 19" monitors with 23" widescreen ones) my XMonad window manager fails to startup (and gnome fails as well) in an odd way that's almost indescribable (I sort-of get the desktop background images badly positioned with one of them showing the red border, and nothing else) -- and I noticed that the xmonad-x86_64-linux file in ~./xmonad is zero length. Also a syslogged message from gnome mentions problems :- daemon.log:Sep 1 06:34:33 roro gnome-session[1492]: WARNING: Application 'xmonad.desktop' failed to register before timeout It looks like most of the files in ~/.xmonad are created around login time, so I'm guessing something has gone wrong with compiling my xmonad.hs -- but not every time, just sometimes. Possibly related to when I've been using my laptop with the normal single screen, and then later start up (cold boot) connected to dual external monitors on my desk, but not all the time. dzen not restarting

Hello, I recently started toying with dzen and I really like it however, where I mod-q it doesn't restart and I have to kill X to get it back. background applications

I've recently set up xmonad on Ubuntu 10.04, and I think it's a testament to xmonad's ease of use that after only three days, the biggest problem I'm having is this: I've got some applications that are run at startup, including Skype. Under gnome (or do I mean metacity?) Skype shows up only in the system tray, no window. Under xmonad, Skype runs (if someone calls me a floating window appears), but since it has no window I seem to have no means of interacting with it. Is there some way I can call it up? Or at worst, have it start with an actual window? I'm trying to get a handle on the different "levels" that xmonad can run at: either within gnome, or instead of gnome... is that right? Currently I start out by selecting xmonad as my session at the gdm login page, and the operative file is /usr/share/xsessions/xmonad.desktop, rather than /usr/share/applications/xmonad.desktop. Anyway, any pointers (either purely practical, or more conceptual) would be welcome! Eric

normal (rather than greedy) view: disable screen-focus switching?

Dear all, Following the FAQ I have disabled greedy view, so that when I ask xmonad to show a workspace on a screen that is currently visible (on a different screen) the two workspaces don't get toggled. This works very well for me, but I would prefer if xmonad would NOT switch the focus to the other screen when I do so. Did this make any sense? What I mean is that if - the two screens are currently displaying workspaces 1 (on the left) and 2 (on the right) - I have the focus on the left-hand-side screen on my desk - I ask xmonad to take me to workspace 2 [which is already being shown on the other screen] I would like xmonad to do absolutely nothing. Using normal view as indicated in the FAQ, this behavior makes xmonad switch focus to the right-hand-side screen (where workspace 1 is being displayed). If there is a snippet of Haskell code I can use to do this, that would be amazing. Many thanks for any help! : ) ~l

You should probably reply to list instead of me because the XMonad gurus are there. I think what you want to do can be done using sublayouts and/or layout combinators, but I never cared enough to try to figure out a way to use them in a way I liked. Stump like behavior...

Hi, Being a long time LISP/Stump user I migrated to xmonad about eight months ago and I am totally hooked, just bought 'Real World Haskell' and determined to 'get into it' ASAP!! Awesome. I've read around the list but I can't see what I am after, prepared to write it myself if I have too... in stump you can create a new application in the same frame as the current one and then rotate between them; a circular queue of windows with the topmost one being the active one. Can xmonad do this out of the box or with some nifty configuration applied to xmonad.hs ? When I have a main window with firefox running and three smaller ones stacked beloe with pork, mutt and a shell open, I would like to be able to use the same space for emacs and swap between firefox and emacs as I work.
