Sorry for my previous noise, but I got a bit excited by the fact that my approach seemed to be working and I recorded and sent just a bit too quickly. This is the correct implementation of my idea: a 'sendMessage' for visible layouts: 'sendMessageToVisible'. And for the button events we use 'sendMessageToVisibles', which will call the above functions. I checked and this actually fixes the problems reported in #111. Let me know, please. By generalizing sendMessage, we can use it to broadcast button events and let layouts in visible workspaces change the windowset as long as they do not update the layout. This should fix the problems reported in issues #111.

Hi, issue #111 is a real problem now that we have decorated layouts that require a correct button event handling. This patch addresses the issue. I don't know if you are going to like it but at least it fixes the problems. If the core developers do not like this solution, still I believe they should provide their own as quickly as possible. Hope this helps in getting this problem fixed as soon as possible. New xmonad development tutorial

Hi all, I've written a short meta-tutorial on the xmonad wiki, on how to develop new extension modules for xmonad. It's not a haskell tutorial, it doesn't cover anything about the xmonad code itself (that's the other tutorial I'm still working on =), just all the little bits + pieces you need to know in order to develop xmonad stuff that weren't really documented anywhere central before (e.g. basics of using darcs, how to create a new module and add it to the .cabal file, coding standards, Haddock basics, how to test Haddock-generated documentation, submitting patches, etc.). I hope some people will find it useful, and feel free to point it out to new people interested in getting involved. vlc -Iskins2 and empty space in stack

Hi. When running vlc -Iskins2 (both last release and trunk) with xmonad there is empty space in stack: xwininfo shows that it is root window instead of application one. Is this my local misconfiguration or reproducible behavior? --

Hi, the patch description says it all. Before pushing I would like someone to test it too (I did all my tests here, with the strangest layouts, still I would like to have someone confirm this patch doesn't break anything). The fact of creating the rectangle first means that the decoration state is now: [(Window,Rectangle),(Maybe Window, Maybe Rectangle)] (the maybe stuff being decorations). As a benefit, now we create only decorations for windows that actually need a decoration. This is needed to let Decoration decorate decorated layouts more efficiently: with the previous approach decorating a decorated layout would mean creating decorations for decorations too, and, since decorations wouldn't get e Rectangle, they were hidden at a later time. Hi, today I pushed some final patches to the new decoration framework: - I adopted a more sophisticated approach for MouseResize: this way we can eliminate some restacking issues. Basically, we create the inputOnly window for intercepting mouse button events only if this input window will be actually visible; - the above also means that now we have the code to see if a window's rectangle is contained by a rectangle of another window: Decoration.isVisible :: Rectangle -> [Rectangle] -> Bool (see also isInvisible and isWithin); - Decoration styles will not decorate windows that are not managed (that is to say, that are not in the windows Stack): this means that you can decorate a decorated layout (see below); - I created a new style, TarBarDecoration, which can add a tabbed like decoration to any layout. The layout may be a combined layout too. A few examples: decoration shrinkText defaultTheme (TabBar Top) (resizeVertical 20 (Tall 1 (2/100) (1/2) */* simpleFloat)) which means: tabBar shrinkText defaultTheme Top (resizeVertical 20 (Tall 1 (2/100) (1/2) */* simpleFloat) will produce: http://gorgias.mine.nu/xmonadShots/tabbedlikeTallFloat.png (Tall 1 (2/100) (1/2) */* decoration shrinkText defaultTheme (TabBar Top) (resizeVertical 20 (Tall 1 (2/100) (1/2) *|* simpleFloat))) which means (Tall 1 (2/100) (1/2) */* simpleTabBar (resizeVertical 20 (Tall 1 (2/100) (1/2) *|* simpleFloat))) will produce: http://gorgias.mine.nu/xmonadShots/tallTallFloat.png DragPane may still have some issues (and so combinators like *||*). I need to check. I think that the decoration stuff is now working as expected. A few issues, and a few new ideas, are waiting for some new code, but I think we should be there.
