This sounds like an old issue in avoidStruts (that should be fixed now). Please see if you can reproduce with the stock config only. Your xmonad.hs or a list of extensions used would also be helpful. Start a conversation, so pidgin has two visible windows. 3. Close the main pidgin window with Alt-Shift-c. What is the expected output? What do you see instead? Pidgin and all conversation windows should close, and XMonad should happily rearange other windows if they exist. Instead, the XMonad session crashes. In my case, gdm presents me with a login screen. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? I'm using: * xmonad 0.6 * X11 Haskell libraries 1.4.1 * xmonad-contrib 0.6 (although using a non-standard layout is not required for the bug to occur) * xmobar 0.8 (probably irrelevant) Please provide any additional information below. .xsession-errors reports a segmentation fault without further information. I'm not sure how to get more information about what goes wrong exactly. Tabbed.addTabs broken?

I'm writing here instead of asking over IRC because it's a bit long and I don't want to generate confusion (I'm quite too good at that...;) There are 2 patches I don't understand. This one breaks Tabbed.addTabs: Tue Feb 5 21:23:43 CET 2008 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * make tabbed work nicely with LayoutCombinators and WindowNavigation. The problem is that WindowNavigation assumes all windows are navigable, and it was getting confused by decorations. With a bit of work, we can decorate windows *after* combining layouts just fine. since Tabbed now assumes that the windows to be decorated are only those with the same rectangle: wrs' = filter ((==r) . snd) wrs Which is fine only with Simplest. If you use it with some other layout (which does not give the same rectangle to all windows) then this will always hold: if length wrs' <= 1 then Nothing It also assumes the decoration to have the same y coordinate of the window to be decorated - the window must be shrunk. That is to say, if we were to remove the first constraint, we would end up with a SimpleDecoration layout modifier. :) But, as far as I understand, this is needed for WindowNavigation (I do not understand well its code, and I didn't have time to study it). Which brings me to this patch: Tue Feb 5 21:35:56 CET 2008 David Roundy <droundy(a)darcs.net> * make WindowNavigation ignore decorations. where you check the stack to see if a window is a decoration. There is also another way to check if a window is a decoration, by checking its attributes (isDecoration :: Window -> X Bool does this). I'm writing because I wonder if we can remove that constrain from Tabbed and solve the WindowNavigation problem in another way. If yes, I can do it (I'll study WindowNavigation). Please David, can you give me some directions? Thanks, Andrea ps: this is the reason why I rewrote the instance in DecorationMadness, with a note that those layouts could be incompatible with WindowNavigation: now that the mouse UI is almost finished, I'd like to get this (hopefully last big) issue solved too.

xmobar time stops when system clock turns back

I guess that this place is the best to report this issue: You just have to set your clock back a couple seconds (or more), and the time display doesn't update immediately. Going forward is fine. I think that when you pass the time that is 'stuck' on xmobar, it sometimes starts updating again. Not that this is much of a problem, I think that it is still a bug, the workaround being to restart xmobar.

mouse resize now available

Hi, I've just pushed a few patches that introduce the new XMonad.Actions.MouseResize module, which is a layout modifier to be used together with WindowArrager to resize windows by grabbing the window's lower right corner. With this feature, which can be obviously extended (mouse resize by grabbing the borders?) I think that the new decoration framework is complete. I added the mouse resize modifier to SimpleFloat and to the resizable layouts you can find in DecorationMadness. What remains to be done is solving the problematic interactions between decorations and WindowNavigation. No other major bug has been reported so far (but I'm waiting...;). Hope you'll enjoy. Andrea

I need help with mouse resize

Hi, I need some help with mouse resize (maybe Brandon is around?). Basically, I'm going to use what Brandon suggested: check for a button event on the lower right corner of the window (I'm thinking about a 4 pixels wide square). The problem is that the window's mask doesn't include button press events. Now I'm puzzled (due to my ignorance): should I change that? should I add some other decorations in the window's corners and set their event mask? I do not really know what happens in other WM and, since this is not like our mouseResizeWindow (which is basically a key binding and is not related to button events), I don't know what I should do. Any direction is appreciated. Andrea ps: I must confess I do not think this is an indispensable feature... it would be nice though. But now that I'm going to push a patch that unifies mouse focus and mouse drag (which means that you can start grabbing an unfocused window) I think that what is really needed is there...;)

dynamiclog broken with Decoration..

hi, is it meant to be the case when using all the Decoration stuff from darcs that it vreaks the dynamiclog? i now don't get the window name updates if windows have decoration. David
