Hi everyone! Just a quick description of a patch I just pushed to the xmonad-contrib darcs repo. First, I cleaned up DynamicLog and added a bunch of documentation and examples -- getting a working status bar seems like one of the more difficult aspects of a typical xmonad setup, so hopefully this will go some ways towards fixing that. In another step to make setting up a useful status bar easier, I also added a new field to the PP record, ppExtras. This is a list of 'loggers', i.e. (X (Maybe String)) actions, which will be run each time the status is generated, and their output added to the normal window title + layout + workspace information. As an example of the sorts of things you can put there, and as a repository for useful loggers that people might create, I also added a new module, XMonad.Util.Loggers. The upshot of all this is that I used to have a separate script to get the time and date, battery information, and load averages, into which I would pipe the output of xmonad, and then pipe the output of that script into dzen. Now, I no longer have a separate script, I can just throw a few loggers in the ppExtras field of my PP format, and hey presto! Simpler, easier to maintain, and easier for newcomers to figure out. If you find the new ppExtras feature useful, I hope you'll create some new Loggers and put them in the Loggers module. And feel free to improve upon/generalize the ones that are already there. Ideally there should be a wide array of useful, configurable loggers that new users can choose from when constructing their preferred status bar. happy xmonading, -Brent

Under Xfce4 (even with xmonad as a window manager), OO.o looks like a normal GTK application; the icons, font sizes and style is all honored. With xmonad, however, it looks quite horrendous and nothing at all like what it should. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? xmonad 0.6 on gentoo ~x86 Please provide any additional information below. This issue is also present under dwm. Searching the Internet has wielded little results, to my frustration. Also, I have no reason to doubt that this isn't a general Java issue, but I have no other applications to test it with. I've attached a screenshot showing the issue. It's quite horrid. If this error is due to a module from XMonadContrib, please tag this issue with 'Component-Contrib' below. XPrompt.Shell feature requests

There are a couple things that annoy me about XPrompt.Shell: 1. When tab-completing a directory name, a trailing slash is not automatically appended. Thus an additional keystroke is required, unlike any other tab completion system I’m familiar with (mostly those in bash and Vim). 2. Filenames in the pop-up tab-completion list are escaped. This makes the names harder to read. Could the unescaped filenames appear in the list and then be escaped after tab is pressed as the string is copied into the prompt line? I looked at the source, but only got as far as finding that the completion is done via bash’s compgen builtin. I coudn’t find in bash’s man page how to add slashes to the output of compgen.

Cabal compiles twice?

Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal? If it is the norm, I'd appreciate a link to where I can learn about why it's not doing what I'd expect.
