Capturing modkey release

Hi (again), Is there a way to capture a release of the modkey using e.g. the event hooks? I've tried modifying the source for debugkeyevents: http://xmonad.org/xmonad-docs/xmonad-contrib/XMonad-Hooks-DebugKeyEvents.ht… but this only captures the release of "proper" keys, not the modifiers. (E.g. pressing mod+j will generate a press and release of the j key (with information about it's modifiers), but not the press and release of the modkey). The goal is to have a tiling layout where, after selecting a window with mod+j/k, that window is promoted to master. To do this cleanly we need an event that means "the window has been chosen", for which the release of the modkey is ideal. (There is the MagicFocus layout modifier, but instead of waiting for the release of the modkey, it performs the shift after every mod+j, and needs an unintuitive window cycling policy to allow access to anything but the top two windows.) By separating the source and build directories it's easier and nicer to backup and synchronize the source files. Hi Tobias, Unfortunately this did not work for me. I downloaded the source, commented out that bit in EwmhDesktops.hs, compiled it and replace the EwmhDesktops.hi file found in my system with the compiled version of the modified file. It didn't change anything. displaying windows names

Hi, Is there a way to temporarily display (toggle, or time-limited) each window's name to identify each window? By window name I mean eg what's displayed in the Tabbed Simplest layout. Here is why: when I use the Mirror Tall layout with an htop running in each terminal displayed, it's sometimes hard to identify which window is for which server. thanks raph

Hi I would like to install xmonad 0.9.2 (which worked fine for me) on my Ubuntu 12.04 system (GHC 7.4.1). Following the instructions on README, xmonad-0.9.2 compiles fine but xmonad-contrib-0.9.2 fails at the build stage: [101 of 180] Compiling XMonad.Layout.MouseResizableTile ( XMonad/Layout/MouseResizableTile.hs, dist/build/XMonad/Layout/MouseResizableTile.o ) XMonad/Layout/MouseResizableTile.hs:182:17: Could not deduce (Eq t) arising from the literal `0' from the context (Num t) bound by the type signature for replaceAtPos :: Num t => [Rational] -> t -> Rational -> [Rational] at XMonad/Layout/MouseResizableTile.hs:(182,1)-(185,61) Possible fix: add (Eq t) to the context of the type signature for replaceAtPos :: Num t => [Rational] -> t -> Rational -> [Rational] In the pattern: 0 In an equation for `replaceAtPos': replaceAtPos [] 0 x' = [x'] cabal: Error: some packages failed to install: xmonad-contrib-0.9.2 failed during the building phase. how to redirect dynamicLogXinerama output to a FIFO/named pipe?

I would like to be able to have xmonad write the output of its dynamicLogXinerama to a FIFO (that I can then read from a Unity app indicator and thus display the workspaces being currently used). I modified my desktop config so that rather than executing xmonad directly it instead runs a simple wrapper script #!/bin/sh mkfifo /tmp/xmonad-fifo xmonad >/tmp/xmonad-fifo but to my surprise running 'tail -f /tmp/xmonad-fifo' shows no output, while if I simply start xmonad in a terminal I can see it printing information about the workspaces being used to the terminal: [1] [1] [2]1 [2]1 ... It would be awesome if anyone could tell me why xmonad's dynamicLog output is not showing up in the FIFO. xmonad itself is clearly running (from the moment I start reading data from the FIFO.) thanks! ~l

Unreliable focus actions in Floating layout

Hi, another PITA of floating windows handling in Xmonad: 1) set floating layout on an empty workspace (SimplestFloat or SimpleFloat) 2) launch two X window applications consecutively, like xterm and then gVim 3) try to change focus with a keyboard - Prev/Next (Mod-j or Mod-k by default) - FOCUSED WINDOWS ALWAYS POPS UP 4) now try to move a bit the top window with a mouse (Mod-MouseButton1 by default) 5) try to change focus again like in point 3) -> FOCUSED WINDOW DOES NOT POP UP AND STAYS BELLOW Is ths a bug, a feature or am I missing something here ?
