Release: pqueue-1.0.1
by Louis Wasserman 31 Mar '10

31 Mar '10

I've finally released my priority queue package, "pqueue," on Hackage. This is the direct result of my efforts to design a priority queue for containers, but instead, I decided to put together this package and submit it for addition to the Haskell Platform. There's already been a huge discussion about which data structure to use, but I'm definitely sticking with this structure for this major version release. I'm not entirely sure of the process to submit to HP, so if there's something in particular I should do, tell me plz. The hackage link is http://hackage.haskell.org/package/pqueue, the darcs repo is http://code.haskell.org/containers-pqueue/ Louis Wasserman wasserman.louis(a)gmail.com http://profiles.google.com/wasserman.louis

Short answer: no. Someone with the appropriate hardware would have to volunteer to take charge of building both the platform libs (easier) and the GHC installer (harder). Introduction The CHR 2010 Workshop will be held July 20, 2010 in Edinburgh (Scotland) at the occasion of the 26th International Conference on Logic Programming (ICLP 2010), the premier international venue for presenting research in logic programming. This year, ICLP is held as part of the Fifth Federated Logic Conference (FLoC 2010). More information on the venue and co-located conferences can be found on the FLOC website (http://www.floc-conference.org/) The Constraint Handling Rules (CHR) language has become a major declara- tive specification formalism and implementation language for constraint reasoning algorithms and applications. Algorithms specified using infe- rence rules, rewrite rules, sequents, proof rules, or logical axioms can often be directly written in CHR. Its clean semantics facilitates pro- gram design, analysis, and transformation. For more information, please visit the CHR website (http://www.cs.kuleuven.be/~dtai/projects/CHR/) The aim of the CHR workshop series is to stimulate and promote interna- tional research and collaboration on topics related to the CHR language. The workshop is a lively, friendly forum for presenting and discussing new results, interesting applications, and work in progress. Previous Workshops on Constraint Handling Rules were organized in 2004 in Ulm (Germany), in 2005 in Sitges (Spain) at ICLP, in 2006 in Venice (Italy) at ICALP, in 2007 in Porto (Portgual) at ICLP, in 2008 in Hagen- berg (Austria) at RTA, and in 2009 in Pasadena (California, US) at ICLP. Topics of Interest The workshop calls for contributions on all aspects of CHR, including topics such as: - (Operational) semantics - Program analysis (confluence, termination, ...) - Comparisons with related approaches - Expressivity and complexity - Language extensions (negation, modules, ...) - Constraint solvers - Implementation and optimization - Concurrency & parallelism - Program transformation and generation - Programming environments (debugging, confluence checking, ...) - Programming pearls Application papers that describe experience with (industrial) applications, are especially welcome. my gsoc project topic
by Csaba Hruska 29 Mar '10

29 Mar '10

Hi! I'm wondering about the topic of my gsoc project. I'm interested in these areas: - improving cabal (more sophisticated dependency, multi version, compiler support, etc) This could be useful from practical view. - Another idea is to improve GHC's new LLVM backend. (eg: support cross module optimization, integrate with llvm-gcc or clang to support full project link time optimization, even using FFI) I'm really keen on compiler technology, and i know llvm for 3 years. (and i'm familiar with clang too) I also have a perspective to GHC's compile stages and intermediate languages. But I've seen that other people are interested in LLVM backend gsoc project too. - Another LLVM related idea is to create a framework to support writing llvm passes in haskell, this should be based on existing llvm haskell binding. - I'm also interested in computer graphics. While this kind of project could look really good, the community could not benefit from it. eg: *write a pure FRP based 3D game, withs existing haskell libs *improve lambdacube 3D engine, etc IMO the big thing will come in these area when DPH and GPGPU will be stable and supported. What do you think about these? Cheers, Csaba Hruska

CFP APLAS 2010
by Yukiyoshi Kameyama 27 Mar '10

27 Mar '10

======================================================================== CALL FOR PAPERS APLAS 2010 Eighth Asian Symposium on Programming Languages and Systems Shanghai, China November 28-December 1, 2010 http://basics.sjtu.edu.cn/conference/aplas2010/ BACKGROUND APLAS aims at stimulating programming language research by providing a forum for the presentation of latest results and the exchange of ideas in topics concerned with programming languages and systems. APLAS is based in Asia, but is an international forum that serves the worldwide programming language community. APLAS is sponsored by the Asian Association for Foundation of Software (AAFS) founded by Asian researchers in cooperation with many researchers from Europe and the USA. The past APLAS symposiums were successfully held in Seoul ('09), Bangalore ('08), Singapore ('07), Sydney ('06), Tsukuba ('05), Taipei ('04) and Beijing ('03) after three informal workshops held in Shanghai ('02), Daejeon ('01) and Singapore ('00). Proceedings of the past symposiums were published in Springer-Verlag's LNCS 2895, 3302, 3780, 4279, 4807, 5356, and 5904. The 2010 edition will be held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. TOPICS The symposium is devoted to both foundational and practical issues in programming languages and systems. Papers are solicited on, but not limited to, the following topics: * semantics, logics, foundational theory; * design of languages and foundational calculi; * type systems; * compilers, interpreters, abstract machines; * program derivation, analysis, transformation; * software security, safety, verification; * concurrency, constraints, domain-specific languages; * tools for programming, verification, implementation. APLAS 2010 is not limited to topics discussed in previous symposiums. Papers identifying future directions of programming and those addressing the rapid changes of the underlying computing platforms are especially welcome. Demonstration of systems and tools in the scope of APLAS are welcome to the System and Tool presentations category. Authors concerned about the appropriateness of a topic are welcome to consult with Program Chair prior to submission. SUBMISSION INFORMATION We solicit submissions in two categories: 1. REGULAR RESEARCH PAPERS, describing original research results, including tool development and case studies, from a perspective of scientific research. Regular research papers should not exceed 16 pages in the Springer LNCS format, including bibliography and figures. They should clearly identify what has been accomplished and why it is significant. Submissions will be judged on the basis of significance, relevance, correctness, originality, and clarity. In case of lack of space, proofs, experimental results, or any information supporting the technical results of the paper could be provided as Appendix or a link to a web page. 2. SYSTEM AND TOOL PRESENTATIONS, describing systems or tools that support theory, program construction, reasoning, and/or program execution in the scope of APLAS. Unlike presentations of regular research papers, presentation of accepted papers in this category is expected to be centered around a demonstration. The paper and the demonstration should identify the novelties of the tools and use motivating examples. System and Tool presentations papers should not exceed 8 pages in the Springer LNCS format, including bibliography and figures. Submissions will be judged based on both the papers and the systems or tools as described in the papers. It is highly desirable that the tools are available on the web. Papers should be submitted electronically via the submission web page at http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=aplas2010. Acceptable formats are PostScript or PDF, viewable by Ghostview or Acrobat Reader. Submitted papers must be unpublished and not submitted for publication elsewhere. Papers must be written in English. The proceedings are planned to be published as a volume in Springer-Verlag's Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. Accepted papers must be presented at the conference.
