Hello, is Haddock compatible with Template Haskell or does it get confused by $(...) syntax? If it is compatible, how does the documentation of TH-generated code look? Wolfgang

Announce: SVMseq learning program
by Hal Daume III 21 Nov '03

21 Nov '03

Hi all, FYI, I've had a Haskell implementation of a support vector machine learning algorithm around for a while and thought some people might find it interesting to look at/use. There are several advantages it has over SVM-Light; these are listed on the web page, but include sample selection and better control over memory usage. More information and documentation is available at: http://www.isi.edu/~hdaume/SVMseq/ Best, - Hal -- Hal Daume III | hdaume(a)isi.edu "Arrest this man, he talks in maths." | www.isi.edu/~hdaume

January 15, 2004 Notification of acceptance February 18, 2004 Final version in electronic form March 27-28, 2004 Workshop in Barcelona AIMS AND SCOPE Rewriting logic (RL) is a natural model of computation and an expressive semantic framework for concurrency, parallelism, communication and interaction. It can be used for specifying a wide range of systems and languages in various application fields. It also has good properties as a metalogical framework for representing logics. In recent years, several languages based on RL (ASF+SDF, CafeOBJ, ELAN, Maude) have been designed and implemented. The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers with a common interest in RL and its applications, and to give them the opportunity to present their recent works, discuss future research directions, and exchange ideas. The topics of the workshop comprise, but are not limited to, * foundations and models of RL; * languages based on RL, including implementation issues; * RL as a logical framework; * RL as a semantic framework, including applications of RL to - object-oriented systems, - concurrent and/or parallel systems, - interactive, distributed, open ended and mobile systems, - specification of languages and systems; * extensions of RL, including - real-time and probabilistic extensions, - tile logic, - rewriting approaches to behavioral specifications; * verification techniques for RL specifications, including - equational and coherence methods, and - verification of properties expressed in modal and temporal logics; * comparisons of RL with existing formalisms having analogous aims, including - rho-calculus, - structural operational semantics, - concurrency calculi, - dynamic algebras. PAST EVENTS Previous WRLA workshops have been organized in - Asilomar, California, September 3-6, 1996, - Pont-a-Mousson, France, September 1-4, 1998, - Kanazawa, Japan, September 18-20, 2000, - Pisa, Italy, September 19-21, 2002. Announce: Gtk2hs version 0.9.4
by Axel Simon 19 Nov '03

19 Nov '03

gtk2hs - A Haskell binding for Gtk+ version 2 GUI Toolkit. This binding provides a low-level wrapper around the Gtk GUI Toolkit. It covers nearly all widgets and thus provides a stable development API. Recent additions include the SourceView widget contributed by Duncan Coutts. The library is mainly for developers targeting the Gnome platform, otherwise you might be better off with wxHaskell or HToolkit. Highlights: - hand-crafted bindings - automatic memory management - compiles out-of-the box on FreeBSD, (Redhat) Linux, Solaris, X Darwin, MinGW (with the Windows port of Gtk) - compiles with GHC 5.04.X and GHC 6.0.X Available from https://sourceforge.net/projects/gtk2hs/ Please report all problems to gtk2hs-users(a)sourceforge.net . Enjoy, Axel

Moreover, the bus company SILA ( www.sila.it ) offers six runs from LINATE to Pavia at 9.00, 10.00, 12.00 AM and 2.00, 5.00, 8.30 PM. The last stop is Pavia, near the station (see again our updated web page for possible alterations of this time-table) (from Pavia to LINATE six runs at 5.00, 7.30, 10.00 AM, 1.00, 4.00, 6.00 PM) (one hour trip; _13,00 return ticket, _8,00 one way ticket). In Pavia there is only one station. The easiest way to reach the center of the town is to get off at the station and than take the bus n. 3. MALPENSA 2000 and OLD MALPENSA Airports: www.sea-aeroportimilano.it/malpensa (usually people arrive to Malpensa 2000 and not to OLD MALPENSA): People arriving by plane at MALPENSA 2000 (also called MALPENSA 2000 Terminal 1) or at "old" MALPENSA (now called MALPENSA NORTH but also called Malpensa 2000 Terminal 2) should take the bus to the CENTRAL STATION of Milan. There is also a bus AND A shuttle TRAIN (Malpensa Express) from Malpensa 2000 to the NORTH STATION (Piazzale Cadorna) of Milan, in this case from NORTH Station you will have to take the underground MM2 (green line) to the Central Raylway Station: trains to Pavia leave from Central station. Moreover, the bus company SILA offers various runs from MALPENSA 2000 to Pavia at 9.00, 11:00 AM, 1:30 3:00, 5:00, 7:00, 9:30, PM (from Pavia to MALPENSA 2000 and to OLD MALPENSA various runs at 7.00, 9:00, 11:00 AM, 1:00, 3:15, 5:00, 7:00 PM) (one hour and half trip; _18,00 retourn ticket, _12,00 one way ticket). The last stop is Pavia, near the rail station. In Pavia there is only one rail station. The easiest way to reach the center of the town is to get off at the station and than take the bus n. 3. There are trains from MILAN (Central Raylway Station) to PAVIA and vice versa about every an hour www.trenitalia.it (routes: MILAN-GENOVA; MILAN-VENTIMIGLIA; MILAN-LA SPEZIA; MILAN-SAVONA; MILAN-SESTRI LEVANTE; MILAN-IMPERIA; MILAN-ALBENGA; Pavia is the first stop only if the train is not slow, that is, if it is not, in ITALIAN, "L", locale). Some of the scientific areas that take advantage from these active research fields are: - Program analysis, transformation, generation - Formal analysis of language properties - Automatic generation of language processing tools For example, language definitions can be augmented in a manner so that not only compilers and interpreters can be automatically generated but also other tools such as syntax-directed editors, debuggers, partial evaluators, test generators, documentation generators, etc. These beneficial results are well known and we would like to make them widely exploited in current practice. Domains of applications that are of interest for this workshop are among others: - Language components, modeling languages - Re-engineering, re-factoring - Aspect-oriented programming, adaptive programming - Domain-specific languages - XML processing - Visualization and graph transformation The workshop welcomes contributions on all aspects of formal language definitions, with special emphasis on applications and tools developed for or with these language definitions. Generic Haskell Diffs?
by Markus.Schnell＠infineon.com 14 Nov '03

14 Nov '03

According to the communities report there are different generic haskell projects (Jeuring/Hinze and PJ/Lämmel) out there. But I don't understand their relation. Can you use both at the same time? Is one building on the other? Are there adressing different issues? A clarifying sentence or two would be heartily welcome. Cheers, Markus -- Markus Schnell
