Hi, this is a follow up of Don's user survey: David Benbennick suggested to have the possibility so see the name of the new workspace when you switch. David Roundy suggested a way to achieve it. And I, with his help, implemented it. Still with some problems I seem not to be able to solve. The fist one is the old thread related problem: since I need to create a window and destroy it after 1 second (the interval can be configured), I need to stop the main thread execution for a second. Most of the time xmonad is blocked in a foreign call (XNextEvent) in the 'forever' loop. This means I cannot destroy the window in a forked thread (which would be blocked too): so I have to block the main thread. But I have to block the main thread in doLayout (actually redoLayout, since we are talking about a layout modifier), which means we block *before* returning the windows and rectangles list... which means, the window with the workspace name is displayed *before* displaying the workspace itself! This is the reason why I use xmobar and DynamcLog to know the workspace I'm in, and this is the reason I did not push this patch. Perhaps I'm missing something really stupid (David?), but I'm not so sure...;) What do you think? Figuring out xmonad and dzen

Hi gang! I've decided to try and get rid of gnome completely and go straight up xmonad. I'm playing with dzen and like how simply piping to it gets stuff displayed. My question now is why do people have multiple instances of dzen? i.e. people have a dzen.sh script piping to an instance in dzen started from the .xinitrc but then the same people will have one started in the xmonad.hs config using the spawnPipe. UrgencyHook and XMobar

Hy, I use xmobar and dynamicLogWithPP from xmonad to show my workspaces. Is it possible to make the workspace red where a application with a urgent-hint is located? I got Pidign (IM-Messenger) on its own workspace and I want this workspace to change color or flash so I know I got new messages. avoidStruts doesnt work

Hy, I wanted to replace defaultGap with ManageDocks as everybody seems to recommend this and I wanted to play arround a little bit. But I ran into problems: I use xmobar as my StatusBar and the attached config. As you can see I commented defaultGaps out and used avoidStruts in my LayoutHook. In my Configfile there are two LaytouHooks, the upper one (commented out) is the one I use but in order to see if its a problem regarding "onWorkspace" I created the second Hook which is far more simple. Using this config nothing happens if I start up xmonad concerning my xmobar. It gets hidden by every window I create. ManageDock seems to recognize XMobar as I am not able to switch to it using Mod+Tab (which is fine!). Am I thinking wrong about the avoidStruts Method or using it wrong? Who can give me a hint? window decorations

Hi, is there a way to decorate windows in XMonad? I'm thinking of a small title bar in which the window title is shown (nothing graphically complicated, only a simple constant color rectangle, maybe a simple 3D emboss effect). By itself XMonad seems to support only a single-color border indicating the focus state of the window. And I did not find a contribution allowing decorations either. So my question: Is there already something allowing me to decorate windows in XMonad? Or are there plans to implement such a thing? Cheers, Daniel
