Hey all, xmonad's reaching a fairly stable place featurewise (and stability-wise too). Now is perhaps a good time to ask people what we can do to improve xmonad further. * What things annoy you? * What things do you like? * What things can be done better? * What things are missing? * What things do you miss from ion/wmii/dwm/compiz * What things do you not miss from ion/wmii/dwm/compiz ... :) If you've any suggestions for things we can change to make xmonad better fit your workflow or whatever, please shout out! If you grumble when xmonad doesn't do something you think it should -- let us know! With information like this we can continue to improve our progressive window manager :) -- Don

Hi, this is an improved version of windowArranger, which fixes some issues and cleans the code. The idea I'm working now is a layout modifier to draw decorations around windows. Hope to come up with something soon. I think that this stuff should be waiting for the new release to come out. Hi, this is the floatinglayout I was talking about in my previous message. This is not complete: it will place the windows on the screen diagonal, and it will assign a new position to the any new window (and not to the old ones). This is just a proof of concept, if you want, to show you the possibility of using a layout modifier (WindowArranger)as a UI for moving/resizing windows. Maybe this could be considered an evidence of the lack of need of a floating layer? I'm not sure. Hi, this is a follow up of my yesterday patch about a new floating layout. This is a complete rewrite (so please forget the previous patch), with a more general approach. Basically a layout modifier that will allow you to move and resize windows in any layout (that returns a complete list of windows). As long as you do not modify the window geometry, the window is managed by the underlying layout, but when you start moving/resizing it, its geometry will not be influenced by the underlying layout anymore. The layout modifier can be turned off and on. In a separate message I'm going to send a Diagonal layout, that will place (overlapping) windows on the screen diagonal, while respecting their original size: a floating layout, a would say, that can be used with the windowArraner modifier. While the layout is just a start, I believe this layout modifier (WindowArranger) could be considered for inclusion in xmonad-0.6. Any comment is highly appreciated. Switching workspaces with arrow keys

All~ How can I make ctrl + alt + (left | right) move the active workspace right or left? I tried looking through posted examples of custom config files, but was not able to understand them well enough to be sure they would do what I want. Thanks, Matt

XMonad.Hooks.UrgencyHook broken?

Hi, I have tried using XMonad.Hooks.UrgencyHook but can't get it to work -- despite following the docs for it. In my ~/xmonad/xmonad.hs file, I have main = xmonad $ withUrgencyHook dzenUrgencyHook { args = ["-bg", "darkgreen", "-xs", "1"] } Yet when chatting via pidgin, which would send such an urgency hook, xmonad doesnt react to it. What's the best way of testing this? Is there something else i need to be doing to get this to work? i heard that rxvt-unicode can generate urgencyhook stuff -- how? Thanks! David.
