Selective tabbed layout?

Hi, I would like to say thank you to everyone who's helped produced such a good window manager - and a tiling one at that. My question is: Can I keep the current (default) tile layout, and use tabbed layout? By that, I mean, let's say I have the following layout: A C B E (FGH) D I'd want to select (somehow) window E to be in a tab, and then from that, somehow spawn and/or add existing window to it, which are tabbed (windows F, G, H). The main thing here though is that the remaining windows around window E are still tiled. I know through the contrib stuff I can have both tabbed and tiled, but not in the way I am describing above. Is that possible? Thanks! David.

Hi, I have updated this patch set to not conflict with current upstream. I’d also like to get some feedback on this: What is the best way to react on X event once at all (and not once per workspace)? It currently only supports changing the current desktop (which at least for me is the most important feature). Note that you need my patch against X11-extras that adds ClientMessage support. You also need my messageHook hack against darcs. I tried to implement this without changes to the core, but trying to do some hack based on LayoutModifieres weren’t very satisfying. The code is still there, just commented. I’d very much appreciate any comments on how this functionality can go in, after 0.4, I guess. darcs patch: Add Layout.FloatLayout the start of a floating layout

Hi, this is the start of a floating layout, something like the floating layout in ion3. It is just a start, meaning that there are no decoration or fancy stuff. But you can move and resize windows with the keyboard (see $usage for setting up the needed key bindings). Now, the main job of a floating layout is to decide where to place the newly created windows. This new module *doesn't* address this problem. Indeed, I implemented it as a layout modifier. I though that this way it should be possible to use alternate floating layouts. In this scenario this module would just be the layer for interacting with the windows. Right now layouts do not work well with this module. They usually place the new windows always in the same place, and move the previously created windows accordingly. Instead we would need layouts that do not touch old windows, but place the *new* one somewhere. Probably I'll try to come up with something in the next days. Anyway, I would like to have some feedback before pushing this patch. I'm not really interested in having this patch included in the xmc tree, so if you think there should be better ways to achieve this goal, please let me know... we can throw this code away a start with a new, more promising approach.
